St. John's as a city is that poorly run that I don't blame Mount Pearl or Paradise not wanting to amalgamate.

I agree with that too .. what a pickle we have created lol

thats it the other municipalities should amalgamate together then at least we will get two halves of a city instead of 10 parts

Mount Pearl does seem to show up St. John's with some very visible, frontline services. So that also contributes to the fear of amalgamation.

But yes, everything but St. John's, at least, should just amalgamate already. It's so irritating to see the development mistakes that come from a lack of a regional planning taking shape here.

So I've been taking Old Topsail Road on purpose lately to experience all those new changes - the extended curbs, narrowed sections, roundabout, etc. I love it. I LOVE it! I hope we do this on more streets, especially the dense, older residential areas.

Agreed. It's nice to be doing something that's actually current in the older parts of town without having to lose any heritage. I mean, we're all guilty of rolling down old Topsail Road at 60, 70, 80 km/hr. Now you'd struggle to top 50 on much of it. Great additions. Gives it that extra umph of... the feeling of density. Makes it feel closer to old town.

I like amalgamation from a planning perspective, however I don't know if planning would improve with amalgamation.

They'll probably need to set it again for the Duckworth corner, I imagine? And, according to the render, that should be covered with the caramel panels.

Aww.. That's too bad. I was hoping for glass there, but I never bothered to check the render. If they are only installing panels on that corner, the crane would probably only be there for a few days (if it is even necessary) because they can put up those panels pretty quickly

I know it's too late now, but with all the buzz and talk surrounding the TD reclad it almost warrants its own project thread.

Yeah, It's a little late for the TD reclad, but we'll definitely make one when the Fortis Building reclad begins!

Hopefully they do calm the traffic and slow cars down but come winter when all those extending curbs are covered in snow, I am sure they are gonna get ripped to pieces by the city snow plows.

Oh, I'm very excited for that reclad to begin.

It's now the building that most irritates me downtown, even more than Atlantic Place, I think. It's the blank side that does me in.

Looks like the CBS — is back on the table. This one will be interesting....

VOCM, Nov 1, 2012

Rumours of a — popping up in Foxtrap in Conception Bay South are more than just rumours. The owner of Sirens — on George Street is expanding his horizons. A restaurant, pub and — will be opening in the former Bus Stop/Vinnie's Pub building on the main highway in CBS. Earlier this summer concerned residents wrote to the CBS town council to protest the prospect of a — in their neighbourhood, but the council said they had no confirmation that that was what the building would be. During a council meeting this month, an application was brought forth to add an extension to the former pub in Foxtrap, but it was ultimately turned down. Construction has begun on the building, which is located at 538 CBS Highway. On a local job-listing website, Sirens Cabaret posted on October 3rd that they are looking to fill positions for their new location in CBS. The website also cites a mid-October opening date.

I'm definitely going to email the planning department in support of the new Star of the Sea proposal. I encourage you all to do the same, if you agree.

They just can't handle the idea that their precious snowflakes might see a building other than a single-family, detached home.
