Thanks officedweller! Yeah, looks like the ground floor of the tower is now marked as 'special use' - I'm glad they managed to keep the shop in the building! Hopefully this will open the door for more light industrial mixed use developments in the future.

edit: the Sales Centre said they are waiting for final approval for Intermeccanica in the Spring.

Is it my imagination, or have there been a lot of ads on local TV stations for this project recently?

I don't recall seeing many TV ads for other condo projects in town, so it makes me wonder why this project needs them.

Do you know whether the Craft Beer Market has leased the entire Salt Building or just part of it?

The Vancouver Sun article makes it sounds like the entire space:

Craft beer mega-plex planned for historic Salt Building

By Randy Shore, Vancouver Sun October 15, 2012

VANCOUVER -- Calgary-based Craft Beer Market, Restaurant + Bar will open a new 350-seat restaurant in Vancouver’s historic Salt Building next summer and instantly become the city’s biggest taproom.

The iconic 1930 salt packing plant has been mostly unused since it was resurrected as a social hub in the heart of the Olympic Village during the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.

The 14,000-square-foot heritage structure will be divided between a central restaurant area and rooms for private dining and special functions, according to co-owner PJ L’Heureux. The Craft concept is “premium casual” with a heavy reliance on local foods and beer.

The new restaurant will carry 140 beers on tap, flowing through three kilometres of draft lines. Calgary’s Craft carries about two dozen Alberta-made craft beers, but L’Heureux said the Vancouver location could easily have twice that many local brews.

Yes, thanks for posting that article! A taproom/brewhouse would be the perfect use of the space in the Salt Building, it reminds me of a lot of the brewpubs in Portland.

Sounds like an excellent use of the building to me, as long as it doesn't turn into a party-'n'-puke zone. But this sounds like a classy place.

Ditto. How hard can it be to run something like this in this city without it turning into a post-game vomitorium?

If it already looks this spandrelly and cliche in the render, I'm afraid of the final product

Developers in this city have absolutely no pride in workmanship. Profit is their first motive by far. They should be embarrassed, but they are not.

yup more info on this here >>

http://changingcitybook.com/2012/09/28/meccanica/

Originally the project had a townhouse base, but now there’s a revised proposal to introduce a showroom and light industrial uses for the vehicle manufacturer recently located on the site. Intermeccanica have manufactured a replica Porsche classic sports car for over 50 years. The new site render shows this redesigned base to the building and site clearance is already well underway.

City of Vancouver has updated the development application webpage for the Intermeccanica ground floor special use since the last time this special use was discussed in this thread (when there was no mention in the application).

Rezoning Application - 108 East 1st Avenue (104-150 East 1st Avenue)

Floor Plans (See "Special Use" on the ground floor diagram at the left hand side [Quebec st] of the diagram)

Notice of Rezoning Application letter, Sept 11, 2012:
"Cressey (Quebec Street) Development LLP is proposing to amend the CD-1 By-law to include the addition of a new use to provide for the existing car manufacturing company (Intermeccanica Custom Coach Builders) to remain on-site on the main floor of the building.

In addition, one additional residential floor is proposed, to the combined new height of 13 storeys (134.7 ft.)."

Inside the Craft Beer Market open house today in the Salt Building at the Olympic Village. They haven't started on restaurant build of the space, so it's going to be a bit before they are open as a restaurant/bar.

Didn't get a chance to ask about an estimated opening date, did anyone else hear anything?
