Yes, the guideway is double tracked to the end of the line, though there isn't really anywhere to go with substantial density past there. Maybe in the future along David Avenue heading East, but an extension towards Port Coquitlam out of Coquitlam Station is probably more likely. They could make the part of the Evergreen Line that heads North from there a spur line, but with how busy Lincoln Station will be, it could get messy.

there is not much north of the last station but the mountains, i thought the official idea of an expansion would have the train doing so at coquitlam central

Hi this is my first post but I've been a reader for years.

^ So I actually wrote to the Evergreen office years ago suggesting an extension from Douglas College. The first station is at Percy Perry Stadium along David Avenue. There is enough park and ride to serve the Westwood Plateau community.

Then it goes up through David Avenue to Burke Mountain, at Coast Meridian Road, a developing community of up to 30,000 residents.

And then it goes south along Coast Meridian Road to have a station at Prairie Ave (in Port Coquitlam), an existing town center that has potential for redevelopment.

Finally it goes down to the Wendy's at the tip of the Coast Meridian Overpass. It's close to, but purposely not at the PoCo WCE station so to avoid duplication of service as in Coq and PoMo WCE.

Future extension could be eastward along Lougheed Highway towards Pitt Meadows.

I remember reading something about this. The wider width combined with the turn radius would have meant that cars would need to be shorter than the 16.7m they currently are. Would've been fine with the Mk I's length but not Mk II's.

Hi and welcome to SSP!

I believe that the hill up Burke Mountain is too steep for ALRT. It would have to be tunneled, I imagine. There's also a river to contend with along that route. It would be prohibitively expensive IMO.

Wow... when did I miss the news that Lincoln was officially added to the Evergreen Line project and website? =O

Anyway, I'm looking at the design render... and I strongly feel that they (the government or TransLink) can add some unique retail units just under the guideway to liven up that side fronting Pinetree Way.

A similar argument could be said of Burquitlam Station for the western side facing North Road.

I think that the mall's management company might object to retail there.. unless they own the units.

Go back in this thread - it was one of the options that went to Coquitlam City Council. There will be a business frontage road with parking along the RoW and street front retail.

Drove through Burquitlam for the first time in a few months.. the Safeway is entirely gone, and where the Shell station used to be a long time ago is now a giant pit.

^all the houses along clarke on the same side as the gas station are gone too. up until kemsley i think (not entirely if that's how far, though).

Wow, so that safeway finally bit the dust eh? They've been waiting to redevelop that site with a new store for ages. It was supposed to have started when I was living on Clarke Road from 2001-2003.

Developers are starting to market more than 1,500 residential units along the Evergreen Line route in the lead-up to construction starting on the $1.4 billion SkyTrain extension late next summer [2012].

Developers have been staking their land claims around the Evergreen station sites and have been waiting for the official go-ahead of the Evergreen Line after so many false-starts for this new line.

Once the deal with SNC-Lavalin is signed to build the line, it could trigger a condo construction boom from Lougheed Mall to Coquitlam Centre.

Bosa even has their own "Evergreen" - condos at the Douglas College terminus.

Yeah, well, the Evergreen Line was supposed to be done by then as well.

I think once they finish the complex with the Safeway, they'll start redoing the strip mall. There's going to be plenty of changes coming to North Road..

That was one of the oldest (looking) Safeway's I had ever seen that was still being used as a grocery store.

the burquitlam area is exploding with townhouses and condos, I don't see that plaza lasting long, it will get redeveloped - i think its zoned for towers

I wonder if the line will finally get the empty lot at north road and austin to be developed

It's sad (for Vancouver) that the "suburbs" along the evergreen line will be so much more dense than the majority of the Cambie corridor along the Canada line.

Yeah, that style is known as a Marina design Safeway store. All but a few are gone now. The one here was odd though in that the signage was never updated over the years, which was especially noticeable in recent years with Safeway's latest chain wide renovations. I presume that they didn't renovate the interior as they were waiting on the Evergreen Line..
