Also re. Bay renovations, anyone have any info on how they are reconfiguring the basement/Skytrain level? I want to know if they're going to keep a clear corridor between the Granville Station concourse and the Vancouver Centre entrance down the stairs/escalator. It's the best chance of making a better connection between the Expo and Canada lines at City Centre.
We are not sure what will happen with The Bay's sub-basement. The space is for lease and there is no guarantee that any substantial access will be provided between Vancouver Centre and City Centre. Lease plans: http://www.pbsrealestate.com/ftp/hbcretail.pdf

We already know TopShop/TopMan will take a substantial portion of The Bay's basement level, and may actually take a further 16,870 sq ft of adjacent space on that same floor. We're waiting to hear back about that potential TopShop expansion. Another rumour is the TopShop-adjacent space will become a small Bloomingdale's concession, but this is only speculation by a couple of Vancouver-based Bay managers. The potential Bloomingdale's deal isn't set in stone and could take on a variety of 'looks' from small 'in-store' departments to the possible acquisition of an entire store-floor. Given the delay and the current renovations, we're wondering if the Bloomingdale's deal is dead in the water... has anyone else heard anything?

(we recognize the humour in asking others to be 'retail insiders', lol)

I agree. It dates the awnings across the street at PC as well as those of the Hudson, whereas the opposite used to be true.

Very classy, reminds me of the old grand hotels.
I wonder if they are brand new, or refurbished.

There are even coffers on the underside of the canopy (yet to be finished). It's like walking into the Hotel Vancouver...

Yes, I really really hope something like the Option Three layout is what we end up with.

1033 Davie Street Renvoation/Reskin?

There is a major renovation/reskin happening to this Davie Street eye sore (sorry no image) and I was wondering if anyone knows what the extent of it is? The concrete grid facade is being scaffolded now, and the lower awnings/entrance ways are already demolished.

I agree the motif wall is different, and would be better cleaned/painted. A refurb of the plaza is definitely happening. They jack hammered up the planters and ripped the facades off the CRUs. The Fountainhead Pub looks to be in a pickle as their patio takes up much of that plaza. Not sure what'll happen there, but the entrance portico to the pub is being demolished as I write this.

Yeah, the whole facade has scaffold being installed now. East to West, and bottom to top. They may have had to remove some while the lower awnings and porticos were demolished, but it's in full swing now. Would LOVE to see some renderings.

The "new" Bay is open for service.
Pretty fancy with lots of new names, the 6th floor men's department even has a disk jockey.

I noticed that the City cut down the two maple trees on Nelson Street next to The Yaletown Keg (west side of the street).
There was some hydro work on the next block, so I'm not sure if it is for potential widening of Nelson Street or for hydro purposes.
They were fairly severely pruned due to overhead wires and hung out over the street a lot.

The two trees shown here are the ones cut down:
