I think certain officials should pass an ordinance requiring T-Mac to always have a camera on his person. Kind of like an ankle monitor.

When I first looked at T-Mac's shot, I wondered for a second what park it was taken from. I then realized how much the foilage has grown on the East and North elevations of the LDS Conference Center. I am a major fan of how that huge building engages the neighborhoods to the east and north. IMO, the terraced walls and roof garden was a stroke of excellent planning.

Most of these renderings below weren't downloadable from the Trib. site, but are now available on the American Cancer Society's facebook page. I especially like how the Hope Lodge is going to look from the street, at the south elevation.

The Hope Lodge will be conveniently located for patients who come from all parts of Utah and from surrounding states for treatment at any one of its premiere cancer treatment centers.

The south-facing patio on the roof balcony offers patients and caregivers the chance to be outside to soak in the sunshine, read, or reflect while taking pleasure in a beautiful view of Mt. Olympus.

Each bedroom suite includes two beds with a small separate area for the caregiver to read, work or watch TV while the patient is resting.

The kitchen is the heart of the home and it is designed to be a place where individual meals are prepared, allowing caregivers and patients to reflect on the day and offer support to one another.

Guests may enjoy times of solitude in the garden to enjoy the calming touch of nature, or they may share a walk with friends or family. The restorative elements of nature are important in the healing process.

Although the opening of a Starbucks is hardly a unique event, the forum has been following this one long enough that perhaps it should be noted. Starbucks in Crandall Bldg (100 S and Main) is now open... although looked like there was still a bit of finish work going on amongst the lattes and laptops.

Was hoping this would provide good eyes on the street for Trax platform but narrow Main St frontage mostly taken up by lobby ramp down to sales floor. Baristas and tables face 100 South. Would be nice if Rite Aid didn't have all their Main St windows covered up.

Also noted when out and about today--press conference on lawn of Washington Square announcing pay by phone parking meters mentioned in transit thread. www.parkingslc.com

Can someone take pictures of all the new retail in the Crandall building, as well as all the new retail along Main Street that we've been hearing about? Also a photo of the entire Crandall building, perhaps from the Bennion jewelers corner would be much appreciated.

Between Downtown, Sugarhouse, the U. of U. and the Metro there's a lot of great projects happening, but it seems like a few of the regular photogs have lost their enthusiasm, or have disappeared. What happened to one of the best ever, John Martin??

Lets talk about Fashion Place Mall. I LOVE that Utah is really stepping up its retail scene, especially with City Creek Center. And Fashion Place mall is starting to look awesome. But I have some questions I hope someone can help me with.

With Sears closing at Fashion Place, what do you guys think should replace it??? What would be some good stores to open at Fashion Place. Any news on any new stores?

I think that they should turn the old Sears into a Bloomingdales, and move that small Macy's into Dillards building. Then add a small retailer where Macys is... City Creek has stepped up the high end game.. Lets bring that to Fashion Place.. How about a Tiffanys, Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Saks, Neiman Marcus.. And that stupid Orogold store by Nordstrom.. What were they thinking opening that.. I have never seen one person in that store.

PS This awesome new restaurant opened down on approximately 4th South and 7th East. Its called Pizzeria Limone.. You cant find any better pizza in Utah. They opened a store on Fort Union.. I hope this one does well downtown. Try out the Viola or the Ferarri.

While I'm sure it's really good, easy on the Best in Utah crown.

There are several that others may feel could easily compete.

i hope the photographers realize how much they are appreciated. i know that everyone on this forum LOVES when pictures pop up. We haven't heard from sphansen in a while either. If you're still following the forum, sphansen, please come back. We miss you!

Sorry Delts, there was a time I used to go around each week with photo updates, but then I started having kids and I don't really have free time anymore.

Not to be a troll, but I looked for the SLC numbers in the report and it looks like the numbers stated in the article relate to San Fransisco, not SLC. SLC is not even mentioned as far as I can tell.

Was this a case of bad journalism?

Thanks for the correction. I really liked the news, but the numbers just didn't add up, especially with the 350,000 people living within 2 miles of the city hall. Salt Lake doesn't even have that many live within the city limits.

As an answer to your question, yes it is a case of bad journalism. But surprisingly enough it is bad journalism on the case of the US Census Bureau, not the SL Trib. I looked at the report when it was first published as Salt Lake City was listed as number 4, the spot where San Francisco was actually supposed to be. It looks like they have fixed it since the initial report.

I live in Philadelphia and they also listed Salt Lake and not San Fransisco, I think people were quick to write a story based on a press release and not fact check. I knew that number had to be wrong. I live in Center City Philadelphia and it is nothing like living in Salt Lake, it is more dense here in Philly with the sidewalks always crowded with people. But obviously Salt Lake has grown in downtown population, but nowhere near what had been attributed to them.

Pretty sure he's jumped ship to another forum...Utah Urban Something-Something? Tired of the drama that sometimes surfaces around here from what I understand.
