Pearl up to 36 and 119m! New tallest condo!!!!

This is part of the letter.

__________________________________________________ _______

The proposed rezoning application will seek approval to increase the height of the building from 35 storeys to 36 storeys(to a maximum height of 119 metres) and reduce the number of the allowable units from 174 to 160.

Pre-sales for the Pearl luxury condominium have generated a significant demand for a larger units. As a result, several of the smaller units have been consolidated into larger units in order to accommodate some of this demand. The developer is proposing to add one (1) additional floor to the tower in order to accommodate the remainder of this demand.

The underground parkade has already been constructed with 296 vehicular parking spaces based on the requirements of the originally proposed 174 units. This number of parking spaces will remain and will exceed the parking requirements in the City of Edmonton Zoning Bylaw for the proposed 160 units.

The proposed additional floor will increase the total Gross Floor Area by 5.18% and increase the Floor Are Ratio (FAR) from 6.18 to 6.50.

Edmonton companies win bid to design and build 12 Alberta schools

EDMONTON - Alberta will spend almost $289 million to build 12 new schools under a public-private partnership, and Edmonton-based firms Stantec and Clark Builders will design and build them.

After the final contract was signed, government officials turned the sod at one school in Red Deer on Tuesday. That city will get three new schools, while Beaumont is slated for a 700-student elementary and junior high. Other schools will be built in Airdrie, Brooks, Chestermere, Cochrane, Medicine Hat and Penhold, and all will be open by the fall of 2014.

“They are starting work on Friday in Red Deer and already have started the Penhold school,” said Alberta’s Infrastructure Minister Wayne Drysdale. “The firms knew they had won a few weeks ago, but we didn’t want to make it official until the final contract was signed, i’s dotted and t’s crossed,” he added.

^ Wow, Interesting. I was passing through the University today and was surprised at how much it already stands out. I know there are some renderings etc. but I feel like I have still been underestimating how much of a presence it will have.

South Campus plan includes new intersection on 122nd St.

BY SHEILA PRATT, EDMONTON JOURNAL SEPTEMBER 25, 2012 7:02 PM

After a six-month truce with nearby communities, the University of Alberta is taking its south campus expansion plans, which include a new road, back to the public for input.

While some residents are worried about increased traffic in the area, relations between the U of A and the South Campus Neighbourhood Coalition have improved significantly since May, said Anastasia Lim, U of A executive director of community relations. That’s when the two sides signed a memorandum of agreement to work more closely to end court action launched by the communities in late 2011.

“We are making great strides and learning about each other,” said Lim, adding that there have been five consultation meetings.

Masood Makarechian, head of the 15-member community coalition, said relations are “very cordial” with the university but some issues remain difficult as the university moves forward with a 30-year plan for facilities, classrooms and offices for 15,000 students and faculty.

Edgewater site: lowrise # 1 is topped out, most of the windows and doors are in. Lowrise # 2 is having the roof of the parkade poured now, the last word we heard is that they want to move on the first tower as soon as possible

Norwood Village on 94st: Parkade roof deck is about a quarter done

118th ave Shoppers: Old Cromdale pretty much all gone... construction of new building starts next month

either - although what's currently being requested is an rfp for who is going to manage the rfp...

i would guess that either "space" or a "build" has the potential of meeting the requirement but i can't see it being met outside of the downtown core.

Continuous space ? The only time previously I've run into a situation where external property management has been required to coordinate an RFP it's been when multiple sites across a wide area have been required.... Maybe there' some special requirements....

I wonder if this isn't one of the "big ones" that were floating around in the last year or so...

"To make economics work, we need the critical mass, obviously, of an office tower. And guess what? The city actually needs office space that could save, by their report, taxpayers money by centralizing all their office space. So what we’re saying to the city is if they went to an RFP, we would compete for it, and if we won, then together with the arena we’d have a critical mass to build a hotel and related projects. Now, all those things working together would supercharge the CRL and drive it forward faster for the city to realize its billions of dollars in tax revenue. Without office space, it might not be possible to achieve the current design. Now, to be clear, we need an anchor tenant...
