I hope this manages to go through... this development would look pretty nice there and give the whole street a facelift.

does anyone know what is happening with the Donald St side of City Place? It seems that they've had scaffolding set up near the loading area for weeks, and I thought I saw a crane near the loading area today??

Could be there for one of two things:

1) There is a day care center being built on the 3rd floor parking level right above where the protective hording you see on Donald.

Apparently with City Place being an old building the General Contractor ran into some unforeseen snags and is a month or so behind schedule.

2) The property manager is also fixing the 4th floor of the indoor parking lot at City Place so the crane may have been for bringing in or out equipment for that.

The Parade been in a state of renovations for around 2 years now as all the 100 year old rebar in the concrete has to be taken out and new rebar and concrete put in.

Just came up in the last two years or so. There was an article about it in the Parade of Homes magazine that came out last week in the Free Press.

This is honestly the first time I've seen or heard of it. was quite surprising to see 4-storey condo's and single-family houses pop up out of nowhere right beside the Industrial Park compared to 6-7 months ago. Wonder if they'll route the 87 through it... it'd add only a few minutes to the route, and it'd gain ridership without the need for its own express service. That and Route 49 doesn't really do return trips...

One thing interesting about this development is the WPD dog unit is based out of the Police station next door and was there before the development started.

Earlier this year, some people that moved in the apartments next to the station started to complain about the dogs being there. Something about them barking while being put through their training exercises and the people did not like the barking.

I don't know if the new dog kennels and offices that are being built are going to solve the problem of people not knowing of what they are moving next to.

I am posting this on the construction thread because everyone is guaranteed to read it.

It has come to my attention that photos that I recently posted on the National Forum focused on "Canadian Ghetto's" have offended a certain unanimous individual. Please, if there are any of you forumers who are offended at these pictures send me a PM so I will know for future reference. If they are reasonably offensive I will no longer post, but I would like to know the reasoning behind why you are offended before I make this decision. If there is an understandable rationale behind the objection, then I will be sure to remove my current pictures from the thread. If you are comfortable with it, we can turn this into a discussion/debate on Western Expresso. I will post this on there as well just in case.

Pictures were fine, if some can't handle the truth that's their problem.

Has the redevelopment of the Montcalm hotel (aka Lipstixxx) made it in here yet?

Winnipeg Free Press - PRINT EDITION
Condos planned for site of Monty's on Pembina

By: Staff Writer

...
THERE may be a few tears in their beers when current and former patrons of the Montcalm Hotel/Monty's nightclub find out what's in store for the Pembina Highway watering hole...

... say the intention is to build a four-storey, 84-unit complex with 43 parking stalls on the ground floor under the building and another 25 stalls along the front property line...

...The city's urban planning division, which has approved the proposal, said "some interesting features have been included in the design... including orange balconies placed at various locations, and an interesting and unique exterior material comprised of 'pre-finished steel diamond shingle' of varying colours."

The matter is to go before the city's board of adjustment on Wednesday.

Nothing says beautiful like parking out front. But it will have orange balconies, so that makes the design interesting and exciting.

In response to my own post; At least it is on Pembina, and not downtown.

there are some black and white renders of "MoCo" (), which is the Montcalm proposal at 2280 Pembina Hwy here (item 2): http://winnipeg.ca/CLKDMIS/ViewDoc.asp?DocId=12139&SectionId=&InitUrl=

also under that agenda is: 20. Variance - DAV 159829/2012C - 40 Mayfair Place

which is a proposal to replace the Mayfair Rec Centre on the corner of River and Donald. some b&w renderings are provided as well.

decent article on downtown development in style manitoba.....nice image of what the Met Theatre was supposed to look like.

also says that the parkade to be built in the exchange district will have 100 residential units on top of it.

starts on page 52.

I wish it was just one massive tower, but as a certain rapper said before, it takes two to make a thing go right!

It takes two to make it out of sight!

I wanna rock right now, I'm Sam Katz and I came to get down... jk.
