so thats 2 new towers in the works right now which by itself is the most high rise developments we have seen in the downtown in a long time. I'm really curious to find out if the convention center expansion will include a 20 plus story highrise in its plans aswell, also i wonder what the plan for mpi lots is. I can name 5 projects that will probably be underconstruction by the next fall those include d condos, alt hotel, herritedge landing, alt residence, and convention center. Truviking also mentioned that theres a few exciting projects on the horizon that we dont even know about so i really wonder how those will look too.

also i saw a bid on the journal of commerce website stating that 2 24 plus story high rises were peing proposed for the ft rouge yds location.

Looking at the City of Winnipeg Board of Adjustment web page

http://www.winnipeg.ca/CLKDMIS/ViewDoc.asp?DocId=12139&SectionId=&InitUrl=

and I see if approval is given, the Malcolm Gordon Hotel on Pembina is going to be closed and demolished in order to build an 84 unit 4 story apartment block on the on the exiting site. plans etc are item 3/4

And the empty lot to the West of St. Vital center on St. Mary's road at Bishop Grandin is
going to be developed into a small shopping center including a drive thru hamburger chain that is almost extinct in Winnipeg. (Wendy's) Plans etc item 21/22

I think it makes sense to open restaurants in the main floor of that parkade, the 140 residential units, the 150 room hotel, 4 stories of office space, plus all other developments going on have been mention but a very important variable in that equation must be the potential 15 thousand people looking for a place to eat and drink after a game or a concert, who right now have no choice but to get in their cars and go somewhere else since the very few restaurants around are packed.

As exciting as the new renderings that Centre Point released today, I believe they are just gathering ideas and info from the public with regards to the residence tower. I don't think there is an actual design or height that's set in stone just yet. I think they just released what the parkade project is now going to look like.

With regards of the second residential tower, I believe they are going to see how much interest goes out for the first tower before they decide if a second should be built. The Norlyn Building is still being demolished. There's lots of time yet to decide to add another tower to the northwest quadrant.

The parkade renderings and retail space looks amazing!

The owner of Monty's originally wanted to add floors to the existing hotel, but if this information is correct, I suppose that was going to be too expensive...

Your right, when I was typing it I didn't think it looked right but I was rushing to post as dinner was ready.

This leaves the Gordon Hotel Group with two hotels. I wonder if they will be doing anything different with those properties in the future. They are both on good development spots on Henderson Hwy and Portage ave. I can't see them making money on renting hotel rooms now probably the vendor and bar are the profit points.

Does anyone know why the top half of the CMHR tower has clear glass opposed to the blue tinted?

Biff made mention it had to do with the lighting (I assume the museum will have a "torch" light look to it at night or something signature like that)

It looks kind of odd though. At first I thought it was still unfinished and then I realized that it is clad, just with a different colour. It's like that skyscraper in Vancouver that is three different colours, it looks strange.

I came across this on the Free Press site..

Winnipeg was quite the place 90 years ago. Now if only we could become the city we once were.

Also, what a school! Strathcona School, McGregor Street between Burrows and Alfred avenues. Bulldozed in '63. Any idea what is there now?

Military parades down Portage and Main everyday would be nice... especially ones with tanks.

It looks like the WSD built a new school at the other end of the lot then took the old school down and made its location the playground and rec center.

Not surprising, but Woodrow Place is officially on "hold"

A New-York-style luxury condominium development on the eastern edge of Wolseley has been put on hold after the developer was unable to presell enough units to allow the project to proceed.

Just wondering, has anyone else noticed the residential popping up just East of the St. Boniface Industrial Park? Went by there while doing some transit fanning, and noticed both a ton of new houses, and completed condominiums as well.
