I'm gonna give it a bit more credit than that. The multi-colored entrances seem St. John's-esque to me, yet the building itself looks modern and fits its area (directly across from Mile One). The screen is a fantastic addition.

I hope the brick is dark, as indicated in the picture, and not a boring light-grey. But yeah, I'm a fan. I like it far more than what's there now.

I agree though, offices, or a few stories of hotel space, would be great on top. I suppose the fact that there are pedways linking to the Delta make the lack of more stories more acceptable. But only a little.

Its not the Nova Centre, but it'll do.

I think that's it, the whole block is a complex, so it already has its hotel and office buildings, Although I would have loved to see more on top but I guess we cant get it all lol, the west end will definatly be a special place in a few years

Now if only Leslie had taken out Atlantic Place, that parking garage, and the TD Building we could have had a proper heritage area AND a modern downtown in the west end.

To me, a clear improvement from the initial design to the most current. As for office/hotel space - in theory, I agree that adding hotel/office space would improve the building, probably aesthetically but definitely in terms functionality (and add density). But this would obviously cost more money and would be above what's budgeted for the convention centre.

Which is, at the end of the day, what every single development comes down to. Given the area though, having the convention center as "just a convention center" isn't necessarily a bad thing. Ultimately, everything you would want in the area is already there, for the most part. While more is nice to look at, it might not be feasible.

Restaurants, hotels, entertainment, offices. Those are the things that should be within a block or two of a convention center. We've got them.

I think after these few new developments get underway (and the new municipal plan for clarity) and the expansion of the convention centre AND after the upgrade of the airport we will see a flood of proposals

Just noticed the video screen on the convention center, I like that idea. Maybe a few more kicking around (done tastefully of course) wouldn't hurt, kind of give a mini-Piccadilly feeling to the block

^ Cool photos. Some things, especially Atlantic Place, look better at night !

Also, the Murray Premises always add a nice touch to waterfront photos, so I really wouldn't want to see them obscured by more development.

Re: Convention Centre - I still like the second over the third render.

The new rendering of the convention looks like the best of the three in my opinion. The first was a too bland with too much brick, the second looked like a movie theater (to me anyway) but the third seems to have stuck a happy medium between the two!

I really like the idea of the big screen! it'll will definitely look cool at night!

Hopefully we'll begin see some progress soon!

It would be office space for the city of St. John's and they have already talked about needing to expand due to the cost they are paying out in rent.

This project is cost shared by all three levels of government. Adding office space for the city of St. John's would indeed add a new element into cost budgeting. I'm sure that entire cost would be loaded onto the city; may be the ends wouldn't justify the means. If this were a feasible solution, one would hope the city would look into it. I'm not saying that it couldn't or shouldn't be done (I'd love to see added density in the area) but it is what it is.

I, for one, would love to see city hall get expanded and re-recladded. That would open up extra space and take away the city's title of, "ugliest city hall in the universe". Unfortunately, that'll probably never happen.

I'd even settle for a coat of paint so it matches the colour palette of The Rooms. But something has to be done. It's a disgracefully ugly building.

The old Littledale college in the Waterford Valley, similar in construction, also suffered from years of environmental effects and neglect. As part of its conversion into The Tower Corporate Campus, it received a complete re-coating and now looks quite attractive. The same should be done for city hall.

That's a good idea, but wasn't the city hall supposed to get cleaned this summer?

Great pictures again SignalHillHiker! Fortis and 351 are really starting to sprout up and Henry-bell finally looks like it's actually getting underway

Also, please say you'll still be here in the winter because I'm looking forward to some good snow shots!

Again, Great pictures!

Oh, I'm home for good now. Never moving away again, no matter what - even if it means bowing out of my job. You couldn't bomb me out of here. And thanks!

New fortis place renders! I was going to ask if anyone has seen any new, more realistic looking renders until I saw Copes post these pictures in the "your cities tallest U/C" thread. So I'm not sure exactly how " new" they are, but they're new to me so thought I would share!

Thanks copes!
