Do TOS violations only involve off topic postings?! I thought that setting up flame bait also was against rules. if it's not, it should be. btw, the forumer in question once pm'ed a message that was so weirdly obnoxious, I realized right then & there that something was....
to get back on track, a friend of mine & her daughter who started attending FIDM, did a tour of dt yesterday. they're from Nocal, so they aren't too familiar with LA. We had lunch in little tokyo & since the daughter mentioned the sci arc school, we included that as part of our visit. I don't have a cam, or my friend at least had a cell cam, but I didn't want to bother her or them about taking snap shots for me.
so I can only describe this location in words.....everything shown in this picture to the left has been cleared out, part of the street is being redone, it appears to have been dug up & refilled in.....the phone poles have been lopped off at the top, so they're now shorter. It looks like the city is starting the process of removing them. The santa fe apt proj is well underway, but it's still at an early phase, since I didn't notice much in the way of any construction above the level of the ground....

no will ever accuse the arts district of lacking enough grit. I guess that's a good or bad thing, depending on your pov. however, I wonder if ppl in the creative field don't want at least a bit more beauty in their life?
I think Little tokyo, esp when things like the new apt bldgs south of the doubletree hotel are built, will be one of the friendliest, or more comfortable, feeling parts of dt. btw, the new sign on top of the former new otani hotel is really quite big & kind of fugly.

I recall when that bldg instead had a simple, graceful red circle insignia at its top. But I hope the new management, cuz of its ability to feed off of hilton's sales system, will help keep the hotel filled with guests.
meanwhile, the clark hotel on hill st still is

. There's something not right about that bldg's owner to be following such a sloooow time schedule.
The redesigned civic ctr park is much more visible from grand ave & for all the ppl who walk around the music ctr. In the past, the downward slope facing eastward & the old parking ramps on Grand created such a blockade, that it seemed like nothing existed east of the street.
there definitely is nothing going on right now at the site of 9th & olive, next to the chase bldg, where that apt tower is supposed to go up. If the devlpr's original schedule was to start work by August, then they've missed that date.
Ppl also will never accuse the southern side of dt of lacking enough grit....it's still excessive imho. but then I remember how

things were 10 yrs, 20 yrs or 40 yrs ago, & I become shocked all over again.
My friend's daughter was a good sport about things....she said something about the hood being more urbanesque compared with her former hometown of san jose. Her mother, however, was rather subdued during much of our tour. We strolled a few blocks around FIDM & she did mention that it was nice that her daughter at least could drop by the nearby mkt.
She'll be living a few miles away around mid wilshire, but I did tell her about the school's plans to build a dorm bldg next to the newish apt tower at Fig & Olympic. I felt like I had to sell the area, be sort of the welcome wagon for them

....But I also often feel uneasy about the hood....a feeling that something....too many things...still are missing. That it's still way too gritty, excessively so. That's why all....ALL....the projs in the pipeline, & then some, really have to be started & completed ASAP. I think unless a person actually is in the hood....noticing all the nooks & crannies....it's easy to overlook the magnitude of how much clean up & improvement still are needed.
