^ That's losing commercial land to residential, however, in an area where commercial land may be needed in future. Some of these developments probably should /could have commercial space on the ground floor with residential above.

Don't talk so slack. I wasn't planning to head out today until I read your post but then I decided to take an hour off work and go for it.

Here goes...

That thing is ginormous! It's the same height as Atlantic Place...

My favourite comment so far, on a friend's FB photo of the ship: "Holy crap, that thing is some tall! I'm surprised the city don't have height restrictions on cruise ships."

When we replace Atlantic Place, we should build a building that looks like a cruise ship. Just because.

When a cruise ship is in it makes for very cool pictures.

Many things could be done to Atlantic Place, it could be made to look completely different, I'm sure that will happen one day.

And two more... of the east end skyline. I love planning to create panoramas because I end up with lots of different scenes I can stick together. All of these photos were in previous panoramas above, but when I focus on these 2-4 pictures only, it's a whole different scene.

What software are you using to make the panos?

In many photos I notice how big the care facility is in Pleasantville, looks like a college campus.

Windows Live Photo Gallery, the version that comes with Windows 7. You just select all the photos you want to use, click Create, select Panorama from the drop-down menu, and it does everything else.

Tip - the roof of the Atlantic Place garage is an interesting viewpoint of the city for panos.

Ooh, thank you! That's a good idea.

Oh, how I wish Southcott Hall had been a little taller. Would've been awesome.

Were you on top of the 15th level or just the main roof?

Great night shots, I like the last view of Duckworth Street because of the way the street curves, and the old Tel building, and the one of Cabot Tower.

I had an idea for a photo thread/series, I'll pass it on to you; since you can see the tower from almost everywhere, it's "100 views (maybe just 50) of Cabot Tower", or it could be just of the hill, and having many different angles, distances, and foregrounds.

Ha! I've unconsciously done that a little already. Omnipresent Cabot Tower. You can even see it from a few parking lots in Mount Pearl.

Glendenning golf course in Southlands offers a great panoramic view of the city (and Signal Hill..!).
