Why are the panels white? I thought they were supposed to be a plethora of Green.

The "colour" is all contained inside. See the website for the renders: http://bgbx.ca/

Frankly, I'm just glad this phase of the building appears to be nearing completion. They've been building for what, 4 years already?

Yeah. That's exactly what they were going for. The exterior was supposed to look like a warehouse of the area. A big box. The interior courtyard contrasted that with the bright green panelling and lush vegetation.

I love everything about what's inside, but the exterior is a total buzz-kill. I know it's intentional, I read all the hifalutin designspeak on the website. I get it. Maybe the photograph doesn't do it justice, but it would still be nice see a little more of the inside on the outside. Why hide all that internal awesomeness?

But with so many homeless and natives dt the only way this can be solved is buying out the cheaper hotels in the area.... st regis and remada marlboro, and the garrick hotel have to go or do more to remove natives from the area.

Why do so many people on this forum, and in this city, feel that they can spew comments like this. If you inserted another race/ethnicity into this type of statement, the whole forum would be up in arms. Please save me your, "just speaking the truth statements".

Certain land in our city is also entitled as reserve land. Things such as these are slowing development in the city immensely. The hotel developments are mostly property investments. Apparently most hotels in Canada don't make much money but increased tourism will increase the demand for hotel use.. Also the growing trucking business will also require hotel rooms. Our lease rate dt is still too high.. how do we attract businesses downtown while scum still lingers and loiters in the area. What strategy will the city implement! The only way business and people will live and invest in the dt is if safety is improved. But with so many homeless and natives dt the only way this can be solved is buying out the cheaper hotels in the area.... st regis and remada marlboro, and the garrick hotel have to go or do more to remove natives from the area. Winnipeg is almost on parr with calgary and edmonton in terms of cost of living.. and the main reason for the housing price increase is the low supply and high demand of housing in the city... Apparantly our vacancy rate for southern winnipeg is the lowest in north america.. and as city it is one of the lowest in canada and north america. Housing development is being slowed because of land issues between municipalities also finding land that can support housing and development and having water piping and electricity done. places like winnipeg our great for renting property our houses where as calgary its very tough because anyone can pretty much build a house when ever they want in winnipeg theres caps and restrictions to how many houses can be built at said time.

also this whole world is run on corruption and side dealss.. so big deal if sam kats is making deals with his business partners on the sides thats the only way big moves amd changes are made in the world of business.. Winnipeg is just a slow backward thinking city that doesnt realize how the world of politics and business operate.. Politics and business go hand in hand man> winnipegers will complain to death about how terrible thier city is but when things are changing,, investments are made tax payer on our institutions and infrastructure they cry why do they have to tax us wanwan i loved the old stadium... i loved have no museum dt... why are they building a hotel dt so many bums wanwan.. what are they thinking a nhl arena dt wanwan every time they got shut up.. they complained about every move the city has made if these backward thinking twats were in charge of peg.. are population would be at 500 000 our avg house would be worth 200 000 dollars. Its programs like yes winnipeg, tourism winnipeg, centre venture that promoting winnipeg and attracting people like ikea and nordik spas and alt hotel to invest in the city.. also future investors like lowes will be because of all the hard work that is being done behind the scenes in the corrupt world of business. ppl believe in peg but do the people who live in peg believe in peg?

Agreed. His point-of-view is as atrocious as his spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

What project is this? I'm not sure I'm familiar with the abbreviation

I tried googling for it and I got a bunch of mk2 cars for sale and tons of people talking about their play station network trophies

Let's try not to insult people? Seriously? This person just insulted an entire race and you defend his post as "odd"? Comments like "remove natives from the area" are ban-worthy in my opinion. Shame on you for downplaying it. I could not just simply "scroll past" this one. Nonsensical rants of this magnitude are deserving of some rebuttal.

I didn't actually read it, I just didn't want a flame war to start before moderators could get involved. I reported the post hours ago but nothing has happened yet.

no need to overreact i deleted the original post...

the only point i was trying to make was that winnipeg needs to change policy and accept the fact that the only way u can convince big businesses to invest in the city is if u make prior arrangements and deals for them that further protect their interests and may not be in the best interest of the tax payers.

I make it a point to comment on most posts that can be deemed racist, and here we are.

The only thing I'll say is that you should think about the fact that your prejudice is actually counter-productive to your end goal. As a Native person when I read, "do more to remove natives from the area", I almost feel not welcome. Like I can't be part of the solution. I know I'm being over-dramatic but exaggeration does help to get a point across.

We're all citizens of Winnipeg, let's work to improve this city... together.

i never meant to offend anyone but unfortunately that is the prejudice that exists in most winnipegers minds. I personally blame the govt for keeping some minority groups down and setting up unfair policies and rules to suppress them even more. i know plenty of hardworking natives who contribute so much to the city, on the other hand most ignorant canadian's generalize and assume certain groups only leech off the system and put no effort towards bettering themselves or their community. When in reality the system was designed for some groups to fail no matter how hard they try.

bottom line is there is a reason the south part of winnipeg is the most attractive and expensive area in the city to live and the core is the worst and the cheapest. Because certain ideas and thoughts are synonymous with winnipeg's core. poverty, gangs, drugs, violence and which groups of people occupy and live in the poorest parts of the city u guessed it natives and immigrants. Until the way people think changes thier attitude never will i want downtown winnipeg to succeed but in order for that too happen the core needs to do what it takes to clean itself and change the attitudes people have towards it. in any other major city the core is the most expensive real estate not cheapest.

convention center expansion, center point, waterfront, assinboine ave, the forks, and the exchange are all improving, but main street between selkirk and higgins and most of the areas north of ellice are still rampant in crime drugs and prostitution and these areas are just feet away from dt thats whats hurts the investment into the core the most. im still positive tho that winnipeg dt will be the best place to live in winnipeg in 5 to 10 years i really do

As a downtown resident, I would just like to say that it is already the best place to live. This proven by the fact that I had to walk five minutes to see multiple free concerts at The Forks (three nights in a row), one of which was the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra - which is a 200.00+ night any other time - with the most spectacular fireworks display I have ever seen. All for free, all right down the street from my home.

Also since my girlfriend moved here, we have made it our resolution to do something every weekend and throughout the week to keep ourselves busy. We have not failed at this, and the amount we have done in two short weeks is almost overwhelming. And the most amazing part is that we have not had to step foot outside of downtown in order to do so. LilWayne, may I suggest that you get out and enjoy what this city has to offer, and you will see why it can easily be one of the greatest places to live.
