It was a quick trip, just for the day. Nice and open, great modern feel without being too empty. Easy signage, bright, airy. I can't think of anything lacking from my brief experience today, and the new tower looks real sharp when you are boarding a turboprop right in front of it on the tarmac.

Also, Northlands Expo Centre makes me angry about the BMO Centre here, we are way behind on the convention space front.

^ Yes, but I betcha the BMO centre isn't operating at a loss at the civil taxpayer's expense.... What a boondoggle. Agreed that Northlands Expo centre is beautiful, though. Been to a few conventions, fundraisers there.

For international arrivals; inbound passengers are routed through Customs via this area.

Does anyone know off hand if the north area is included for future expansion. If we mirror mid original terminal build, that airport, on arrival, would lok gigantic. On top that, from an arial view, it would kind of look a B2 stealth bomber.

Some pretty major developments on the FBO front with Signature flight support opening its second Canadian location at CYEG. Aswell Suncor has now based a CRJ-900 at YEG fulltime aswell as Enerjet 737-700 and Air North (Yukon) basing a 737 (Rotating a -200 and -500) in support of the oil projects in the YMM area.

In addition Suncor will be opening its own dedicated facility at YEG for its own operations later this year using a exsisting facility as Canadian North has already done.

As we see Air Canada Express increase its YMM service from YYC it makes you wonder if this is a result of having more ''Direct to site'' flights from YEG than YYC currently does via Canadian North in particular.

In addition talk about Canadian North purchasing First Air has also ramped up in recent months. Should get interesting very soon!

Im not surprised with suncor as voyager is about to come in full blown. It is a new site construction category so flights will be used to fly workers in. Calgary is also a centre use for flying workers in, so that might be the reason. You could be right though tuffy.

It's is not so much as to who wants to fly to Cranbrook etc. , but the fact that market has a population of less than 20k with an agglomeration with less than 25k... There should'nt even be flights to there in the first place- unless economic specific that warranted it. A once a week or every second week perhaps; even that, i don't see as viable based on population. That city, most likely, does not even have a ( one bus ) transit system for their population let alone air service...

Hey now, don't be mean to Cranbrook. A quick google search would show they do have a bus system.

Sorry... my post was purely emotional and based on what we (as Okanaganites) always thought about Cranbrook: It's a — hole!

And really, it is true... the only reason the flight was introduced in the first place is becuase there's a good sized labor pool of unemployed mill and rail workers down there in that area to help serve the oilsands and related industries. I am certainly not sad to see that flight go

I would think Invermere would be a better flight destination. I know lots of people who have vacation homes there, or in Panorama or Radium.

By no means was i mplying any negative connotation... Just stating out population vs viability of opportunity. I quite enjoy that area- been to Fernie multiple times and think it is quite lovely there.
