It's more interesting, that's for sure. Although I think I like the cladding on the old render better. And I don't really like the base at all. I just hope that the office portion is one tower instead of two stumpy ones.

At any rate, this is by far my favourite location for a Montreal condo project. Victoria Square and environs is a million times more interesting than that area around the Bell Centre.

Depends on what you're looking for. Bell Center is just two blocks away from Ste-Catherine/Stanley, which could be argued as being the center of the city. For some, this might be desirable. Victoria Square is a different proposition, closer to Old Montreal. It's classier.

I like the new towers. I even like the over the top publicity. Alice of Montreal ? I love the water fall.

City Core unveils four renderings of potential designs for Harmony Village

Harmony Village, the new waterfront resort village in Barrie, is making waves due to its receptiveness to public input on the architectural direction that the community will take.

On August 1, City Core Developments welcomed four big name architects to a seminar room in the Art Gallery of Ontario to show off and explain the virtues of their potential designs for Harmony Village. The official design selection will be announced in mid-September.

Apparently it will be sandwiched between some ugly 1970s apartment blocks, other faux historic condos (from a different era and country, sort of), and some modest houses. Also it will probably be made out of foam.

These aren't much taller than the one's on Lakeshore drive and the apartment behind the Kozlov centre, so it's not too out of place with the community. plus Barrie is a fast growing city.

The building is to provide a dynamic experience for all aspects of the university life; educational, social, and cultural. The concept grew out of the contained site conditions, building program, and location within the urban context. The site is flanked by major vehicular route along Colony Street with the pedestrian area of the mai
n campus to the west. The building 'begins' as a dynamic curved facade of glass and activity following the street, until it breaks apart into nine storey terraced green space at the pedestrian entrance. The Balmoral facade has a recessed walkway and two overhead links to the main campus. Inside the building is organized around a nine story covered courtyard, bringing light and animation to all functions of the project.

Agreed, have those opposed spent anytime in Barrie? Any move towards urban living and curbing sprawl is good news if you ask me. Barrie isn't some quaint little cottage town so I don't really get this no high rise attitude on here.

I still don't see what's wrong with higher quality midrise development? Maybe something that incorporates vernacular materials such as pine and granite?

These highrises look like some soulless development from an Asian suburb.

Nothings wrong with mid-rise but it's obvious the city wants a new focal point with highrises. Barrie has plenty of room for mid-rise growth. As for those being soulless it's a little tough to tell from only a few renders. And if Asian suburbs look like the the Hariri Pontarini submission or Core submission then they must look amazing and I'd like too see some pictures.

This is really avant-garde by Montreal standards. Love love love it!

-First 7 storey condo building is 80% sold
-Second 7 storey condo is approved and should be opening sales by January (I'm personally hoping that because sales went so well for the first tower that they will increase the height on the second one)
-8 storey hotel tower is awaiting approval

All three towers should be under construction by spring 2013. Not sure about timeline for the waterfront landscaping. Pretty impressive for a "have not" city.


It will also make quite the modern mark on Thunder Bay's waterfront skyline which features 2 100 year old highrises and many semi-modern apartment and office buildings. Pretty cool times.
