Why didn't you take the YYC-NRT flight?

Actually I'll be up in YEG on Wednesday, last time I was through the airport was back in 2005 coming back from NYC.

I did that once too YYC-YEG-YYZ-EWR and PHL-YYZ-YEG-YYC on the way back. Saved me $400 versus direct or only one plane switch in YYZ.

I thought I'd throw YEG a passenger count.

I think it was just the way the routing worked, plus I always enjoy a chance to get on a turboprop.

Yeah I'd heard about the new daily Vancouver - Tok service. Although I thought it was supposed to be just a 763 not a 77W. Heard Fairbanks Airport Authority is pissed that Tok got the flight and not FAI Int'l.

Wonder if Edmonton airports has talked with Interjet or Volaris of Mexico as both airlines are steadily adding service from Mexico City. Interjet has stated its looking into several former Mexicana destinations including those in Canada...

I read somewhere that Interjet has ordered a dozen or so Russian Sukhoi 100-95 to serve additional North American Markets

Very curious to see the North American consumer react to flying on a Russian made jet. Then again the Sukhoi is so modern the average Joe would probably have no clue unless it was pointed out to them.

Personally I'd jump at the chance to do it, but I'd rather it be a classic like an IL-62.

^I doubt the Sukhoi would make it to certain Canadian destinations. I would guess that they would use it for domestic and use their 319's for US and Canada (assuming a 319 has similar range as a 737-800)

They are looking at destinations within range of the A320 (6 hours.)

I can't see YEG making too much headway with AC, WJA, and foreign players like BA, KLM, or Lufthansa. We're just too close to YYC and YVR. If to eliminate all YEG leakage to YYC, the two airports will not be too far apart in terms of pax stats. I see opportunity with companies such as Alegiant air, Interjet, Iceland Express, and possibly Ryanair/Easyjet if the decide to enter NA. With a strategic codeshare or alliance, Edmonton could be a hub for low-cost carriers between US/Mexico and Europe.
Probably dreaming, but if this kind of thing is possible, the people at YEG should be looking at ways to best suit Edmonton
