OMG! Such good news. It was stupid to not do Lincoln Station as part of the initial group of stations, IMO, but it does make sense for the mall to chip in. I have a feeling that Metro-One will be quite pleased.

I wonder what this will do to Henderson Place.

There are two drawings here:

With the entrance facing north, maybe they should call it 'Nothern Station'

Negotiations take time - often years...

I remember in 1993 when Henderson Place was just a big hole, there was rendering in the site which also included a 20 storey or so office tower at the general area of the mall where that Kirin restaurant is now. This was, of course, under the assumption that Skytrain is coming (King George Station in Surrey also had a similar rendering, which also included a 20 storeyish office tower).

Well, we all know what happened, the site languished for years and when something was finally built to what is now Henderson, its is simply 🞵🞵🞵🞵 right now. Even amongst the Coquitlam condos, the Henderson towers (Obelisk and Centura) aren't as valuable as, say the Bosa or Onni Towers, despite bigger and well designed floorplans (look it up in Realtylink).

But with this announcement (plus the new Coquitlam library taking over the unoccupied portion of Henderson), I think those who own units there are in for a big caching! Hey, it only took them over a decade or so, but if all goes well, I think they would be very lucky...

What I`m curious is when will the sister towers of Levo ever rise? Or that 18 storey office building proposed near the mall? You know...things like that....

Then again, it is summer and still no word on the primary contractors. but this news on the Lincoln station is at least something...

My wife and I were seriously looking at moving to one of those condos near Lincoln station but decided against it in part because the skytrain was still just as far as the seabus is to us now. That is a smart move.

Now if only THE HARPER GOVERNMENT could do something about condo developers thinking 9x9 is an appropriate size for a master bedroom...

Isn't this a municipal government issue? Similar to that thing in Toronto requiring a certain percentage to be three bedroom units for new condo development in downtown that is under debate right now?

I feel your pain. I saw a newly-built unit a short while ago, and no word of a lie the master bath was bigger than the bedroom. ARE THEY ON FREAKING DRUGS?

It's just smarter to build Lincoln Station at the same time as the rest of the line.

If done after Evergreen opened, it would be more expensive and its harder to work around an active SkyTrain line.
(See Plaza 88 in New West)

OMG, I don't believe it! Finally something I have actually fought for / suggested / actively pushed for via comments / attending open houses, etc... has actually happened!

You guys are right, Metro-One is very happy about this, hehe.

The Evergreen Line is the only project in this city that has really gone my way.

Skytrain beat out LRT option - Win for me
North route beat out south route - Win for me
and now Lincoln Station added - Win for me

Hehe, makes me feel a little better after being on the losing end of everything else (viaducts, stadium entertainment district, the new casino, interchanges on the SFPR, etc...)

Thanks for the great news WarrenC12! With the feds chipping in $7m and Polygon contributing $1m, it shouldn't be long before the remaining $7-8m is raised (assuming the cost for the station is still between $15-16m).

Now the future bus along David-Coast Meridian-Kingsway can terminate at Douglas Station w/ mobility-challenged people able to get to Coquitlam Centre with ease. (EDIT: Well... they still have to walk either along Northern Ave or criss-cross their way through the parking lot to get to the mall itself.)

To quote a former Liberal (Trudeau) "there's no place for the state in the bedrooms of the nation" Once it is small enough that it could be mistaken for a closet then perhaps its time for action

Morguard Properties, the owner of Coquitlam Centre, is topping off the rest. Which makes you wonder what they're planning development-wise for all their surface lots...

I'm not sure that there is a whole lot they can add on there without adding underground parking. It'll never happen, but I think that it would be neat to see some sort of miniature tram to transport people from Lincoln Station to the mall itself. Then again, it'll be much closer to (the current location of) Brentwood Mall, so probably not necessary.

If the Government really wanted to reduce housing costs in Metro Vancouver they would allow developers to build microsuites.

http://www.theprovince.com/news/SkyTrain+station+announced+Evergreen+Line/6961856/story.html

A new SkyTrain station has already been announced for the Evergreen Line, even four years before its expected opening day in summer 2016.

The new Lincoln Station, which will be located at Pinetree Way and Lincoln Avenue, will be funded through a public-private partnership between the federal government, the City of Coquitlam and Pensionfund Realty Limited, the owners of Coquitlam Centre Mall. The station will bring the total of Coquitlam Evergreen Line stops to seven.

“We are thrilled to have received such a significant contribution, and to be able to make the Lincoln Station a reality,” said Coquitlam Mayor Richard Stewart in a statement Thursday.

“It will greatly improve the quality of life in our community and support the long-term transportation goals of the city and the region.”

Minister James Moore echoed that sentiment.

“Our government is committed to improving the quality of life in communities across Canada by investing in local infrastructure,” Moore said. “By investing in this project, we are partnering with the City of Coquitlam to leverage public funds with private support. This is a big win for commuters in the Tri-Cities and especially for taxpayers.”

While a final price tag on the station has yet to be determined, the federal government will contribute up to $7 million to the project through the P3 Canada Fund. Once selected, a private operator will then build and finance the remainder of the project.

Lincoln Station will serve the Coquitlam Centre Mall, as well as a dozen existing and planned residential and retail developments within walking distance, helping to further the city’s community plan for the city centre to become a sustainable high-density, urban core.

According to a city press release, the project will directly and indirectly create some 8,000 jobs and will open at the same time as the rest of the line in 2016.

How well used is the above ground parking? The entire city blocks of this area is basically a parking lot. There is a great potential for development around Coquitlam centre converting the surface parking lots into something of greater value and multi purpose. This of course describes many commercial districts in typical north american cities.

I wonder if they sold the naming rights? I can't see the mall wanting the station called "Lincoln Station".

I guess we can't have a Coquitlam Central immediately followed by a Coquitlam Centre Station

I don't think it's a cost issue - it's a values issue. Some group thinks 9x9 master bedrooms are ok and are buying these suites. I'll stick with my 1970s condo with the 13x15 master bedroom.

And I wasn't really blaming the government for bedroom sizes in case that wasn't painfully obvious yet.
