Wow I totally remember the Mark IX. I am giving away my age but I recall riding my bike over to check it out when under construction when I was a kid as the all steel basement was considered quite a novelty at the time. Needless to say, this never caught on. It appears to be still standing though.

ALT Hotels has an ad in todays Leader-Post saying they are looking for property in downtown Regina. The area they are interested in is bordered by Smith st. on the west, 13th ave. on the south, Broad st. on the east and 11th ave. on the north.

^^It'd be interesting to see which lot ALT decides to build on downtown (if they ever). I can see it being apart of the Central Library Project, it would bring some nightlife to the plaza and perhaps the buildings in front of the plaza will actually have some retail shops in the future.

The blocks along the Rose street (where that office tower is supposed to be) and Broad street would be ideal as well. It faces a major road, and it could bring some streetlife to Broad street.

The Legion is looking into some sort of deal which would see them selling their building and leasing space in it. If this happens there are plans for renovations. Not sure what kind of renos would be done. It sounds like they have a potential buyer, but haven't said who it is.

Has anyone seen/heard which installations were chosen for the Tornado Legacy Project? I know there is one at 1860 Lorne (Rising From the Ruins) and one at 1621 Albert (Centre Crossing) - although I haven't seen this one in person yet. I'll take the long way home from work tomorrow night so I can get a look at it while it's all lit up. How many did they end up choosing?

This is from May but it's the most recent news I could find regarding the Davin fountain. They're estimating the cost of restoring the fountain at $101,141...I love estimations that are that specific. Installation could cost another $50,000-$100,000. There's a group looking into funding, locations, naming, etc. I didn't realize that it was originally simply called the Victoria Park Fountain. The Davin name didn't come until the fountain was moved to Rotary Park. The issues some people have with the name have to do with the fact that Davin wasn't always a stand up citizen. I really hope that someone finds the funds and a good location for the fountain. I still like the "raised" area on the FW Hill Mall as a location...I think it would fit in well there and be a nice focal point. Any other opinions?

Vote to open Regina City Square to one-lane traffic
Decision now before city council

...Drivers entering southbound on Cornwall Street would turn right at City Square and leave on Lorne Street. Drivers east of that would leave northbound on Cornwall.

When the proposal was first presented last week, Kelly Wyatt with the city explained that the speed limit would be only 20 kilometers an hour and they expected most of the traffic will be drivers who use it as part of their daily route to and from work....

I've seen the installation on Lorne Street, I did find the location not ideal, it is almost out of the way, faces a small parking lot and is not on the most attractive street, I wish they located it in a more prominent position. That street also doesn't have a lot of life to it as it is dominated by the two Sasktel buildings. I am not sure how many were selected but am curious to know which ones.

As for Davin fountain, I'd like to see it incorporated into Victoria park somewhere, perhaps close to one of the corner entrances. I know the larger plaza/park plan includes future changes so perhaps the fountain could be included in those future changes.

Maybe it was originally part of the central library project, but since that is now dead perhaps they are going to do something on their own now. I looked up their website and the hotels look quite nice, modern/European feel, hopefully they can find a lot as the downtown needs more hotels. And the one that is getting built on Albert Dewdney is frankly going to be an eyesore..

Looking at the rendering of the ALT Hotel in Winnipeg, I'm thinking this would be a great fit in the Capital Pointe sight. I recognize that it does not provide the amenities that the Capital Pointe facility would but maybe that sight would be better served as a hotel only and look at other more suitable sights for a condo. It meets the criteria that ALT look at in terms of being in the centre of amenities as opposed to providing them in their own hotel. It is close to downtown and easy access to numerous pubs and restaurants AND these guys at least have a decent track record, unlike the Capital Pointe developers!!

Southeast part of the grounds, where the old Saskatchewan, Jubilee buildings are (and Grain Show building was until it burned down.) Right across Elphinstone St from the Sportsplex.

My source told me that it going on the far south of the Brandt Centre parking lot, next to Confederation Park. It will be connected to the Brandt Center by some shops.

It sounds like Confederation Park's days are numbered. Hopefully there will be a new landscaped plaza for the stadium to replace it.

I think that is what Evraz WANTED. But the location chosen is the south side of the entry road from Elphinstone, right where that burnt down building is.

If you read the minutes of last night's council meeting, there was a huge report on the Davin Fountain, including all kinds of historical info. To summarize:

Original Cost: $675 plus $125 to later add the finial electric globe light.
Cost 103 years later to restore: $100,000+
