I'm curious...what do you expect out of your clothing? By the way you're speaking it's as if you wear Armani and Ralph Lauren on a daily basis. I have no problem wearing all of this "cheap" clothing.

I get what he's saying...I have t-shirts I bought 20 years ago that are still in fine shape today. But I have similar t-shirts I bought within the last 1-2 years from stores like AE, Aeropostale, H&M, etc...that literally have holes in them, just from wearing and washing.

That's all well and good but I don't see the point in complaining about fashion and shirt production on a forum for community and area development.

It is a little off topic, but it's not as if we never get off on tangents around here......

The point he is trying to make is that it's good to see quality retailers beginning to take notice of opportunities in NB. This will only improve selection for those with discerning tastes.

Given the state of our economy however, there will always be room for Wal Mart or Frenchy's

GregHickman; I expect my clothes to be of good quality and hope that I won't look like a bum at work. I also expect my clothing to last a couple of months to a year or more. Quality shirts and sweaters usually last a long time. Is it too much to ask, than the garbage they sell in most stores! Pfffffffffff! Next topic indeed.

I like Frenchy's to be honest. I enjoy buying Pierre Cardin ties for $2.

Browsing the St. John's retail thread, I see that they are getting a Milestone's restaurant. This is quite a catch for them. They currently exist in only three provinces, with the furthest east location currently in Ottawa.

When I travel, Milestones is one of my favourite restaurants to frequent. It is part of the Cara Foods group (Swiss Chalet, Harveys, Montana's, Kelsey's etc.). This is the upscale entry in their stable of restaurant brands and would be very similar in some ways to Moxie's.

I would love to see a Milestone's in Moncton. It would be an ideal choice for the second restaurant pad at the Mapleton Centre. Mapleton is the sort of upscale development that they would like to set up in. Now that Milestone's have finally decided to set up in Atlantic Canada, perhaps they will consider here. If they are interested in Moncton, they might want to lock up that Mapleton pad location since it could be some time before a similarly inviting location might become available in the city again....

The jewelry store wars at Champlain Place ignited by the arrival of Pandora and Swarovski continue:

Charm Jewelers has reopened and now looks quite upscale. Meanwhile, Crescent Jewelers has suddenly closed for urgent renovations. The only jewelry store apparently not engaged in hostilities is Peoples Jewelry, but their store already looks quite nice.

Charm, it was needed... Crescent was getting long in the tooth also. It's about time because Champlain Place jewelry stores we all quite nondescript. COMPETITION is the best thing in retail, for all parties involved.

Locale shoes is changing into Little Burgundy shoes...they are both part of Aldo Group but I feel as though Little Burgundy is more of a trendy/high end storefront than Locale was.

here is their page: http://www.littleburgundyshoes.com/ca-eng/culture

I was talking with someone I know working at Coats Co this week-end. It's suppose to be a Victoria's Secret taking their place. Take it for what it's worth

The rumours about Victoria's Secret and Champlain Place have been swirling for some time. There is apparently a Victoria's Secret opening in the Halifax Shopping centre, so it is possible that Champlain could be next, but the Coats Co location is probably too small for them. This would make an excellent location however for Jump+.

Confirmed in the T&T today that the Northwest Centre Zellers location will indeed be converted to a Target.

Although we have long suspected this, and have known for some time that Target had secured the lease for this location, this is the first actual confirmation that Target will actually be converting this store. Opening is scheduled for the fall of 2013.

Target stores have integrated Starbuck's outlets. It is interesting to note that there appears to be some interior work going on at the old Sony Store location. This is immediately adjacent to the main entrance to the Zellers store. This would make a dandy location for the Starbucks. Hmmmmmm.

Just a heads-up about the currently under construction stand-alone Starbucks at Lounsburry Center on Mountain Rd.

I was at mall kiosk Starbucks location the other day and asked the manager (at least I THINK she was the manager) when the Mountain Rd. location would be opening. She said it's planned to be open "sometime mid-September".

When asked if that new location would feature the full line-up of items on Starbucks.ca, she unfortunately said no... that "not all items will be available, but there will at least be more items than are currently available here or at Chapters location".

Take this with a grain of salt if you will, but that's what I was told. Can't wait to see what items will/won't be sold there once all is said & done.

I was speaking with someone from Magic Cuts ( which is currently located in Zellers - Mtn Road) .. she said that Magic Cuts will be moving out of Zellers and into one of the Strip Mall locations ( she didnt know which one) .. she figured either the one next to NBCC or one of the two store front locations beiing constructed on the Corner of Ryan and Mountain.

which one could speculate that the rumours of Target Expanding Zellers to take over the entire Northwest Center .. so that you would have only 4 stores ... Princess Auto - Pets Unlimted - Sobeys and Target(starbucks)

since Battery House, Subway, Dentist, Aarons and now Magic Cuts are moving or creating other locations.

On a side note.. the Huge amount of land clearing and digging happening along Wheeler and Ryan ( next to zellers) is simply a continuation of the draining System they are creating on the other side of Ryan and Wheeler.

Forget where I read it, but I recall Target confirming that it was partnering with Sobeys to supply all their food products in Canada. Was really disappointed they weren't "doing their own thing" since this likely means we won't get any of the same food brands/products currently in American Target stores.

It does however bring up another interesting issue... why bother selling Sobeys products at a Target when you've got an ACTUAL Sobeys store directly next door in the same mall?

Will they go the Wal-Mart Canada route and only have 2-3 aisles of groceries in the entire store or will they go the Wal-Mart Supercentre America route, force out all the smaller retail stores between Sobeys & Zellers, then envelop the existing Sobeys store but rebrand it as Target? (i.e. The only 3 stores in mall at that point would be Princess Auto, that pet store & Target.

Dunno what will happen, but it will be interesting to see how they go about it. Also, not sure they'd have a Starbucks in Target if they're building one up the road at Lounsburry Center. Then again, who the heck would have ever thought there'd be a Tim's in Highfield, then another one directly across the street as you exited the door to catch your bus, granted that's no longer the case.

I'm certain there will be a Starbuck's in the new Target. The fact there is one being built up the road at Lounsbury's is irrelevant. In fact, I'm willing to bet there will be a Starbuck's at Mapleton as well (there is a drive-thru in the site plan). That would make three Starbuck's in the NW part of the city.

As for Sobey's, you're right about them partnering on the grocery side of the business. I can't imagine them taking over the Sobey's store however. The Target will be large enough as it is when they confiscate all the stores between the existing Zellers and Sobey's.

All sorts of strange things happen in retail. For example, when they built the new Sobey's and standalone Lawton's on Elmwood Drive, they still put in an in-store pharmacy in the Sobey's store even though the Lawton's is just across the parking lot!

You're absolutely correct MonctonRad.

We have a Starbucks within Indigo and a full service Starbucks with a Drive Thru as well within the same development. And a third used to be in the mall a stones throw away. Once Target opens, there will be three all in the immediate vicinity again.

So I can only assume it will be no different in NW Moncton and they will all do just fine.

I can assure y'all, Subway is NOT going anywhere. It was recently reno'ed and why would you move when a massive retailer is opening a 120,000ft shop next door....
