Coach is now open at Champlain Place. As previously reported, this is a full fledged Coach store, not a factory outlet. Looks very nice.

You probably are aware of this but Banana Republic is coming to Moncton at the Mapleton Power Centre this Fall..

Granted, but it will still be the first BR in NB.

UPDATED LIST OF STORES IN THE MAPLETON CENTRE:

- Golf Town (open).
- Cleve's Source for Sports (open)
- Ocean Trail Source for Adventure (open)
- Bed, Bath & Beyond
- PetSmart
- Moxie's Bar & Grill
- Henry's Camera
- Banana Republic Factory Store
- Tag
- Best Buy (not confirmed yet, but I can feel it in my bones).

That's 10 stores. The development supposedly can hold 22-25 stores, so it will be interesting what else comes to light in the next couple of months. A couple of the stores with job postings have had closing dates in October, so it would seem reasonable to presume that most of the stores listed above will open by late October or early November.

Given the quality of the tenants listed so far, it would seem that the Mapleton Centre will be a mini Dartmouth Crossing. Note that I am referring only to the quality of the tenants, not the size of the development.

i prefer the outlet its so cheap compared to the regular one, they have great sales like 40% (+15% more if u sign up for the emails) off all red tag prices sometimes - you can walk away with bags of clothes for like $100

they usually open gap factory and banana factory stores together so they may pop up there if there is the room still

Possibly, but there is a full fledged GAP at Champlain Place. I don't know if they would want to parasitize their own business by opening a GAP factory outlet in town as well.

One of the things to note is that position at BR Moncton is for a General Manager. According to the job description there will be occasional travel overnight. I am assuming that GAP Inc is going to have this position be responsible for the overall management of their stores in Moncton ie GAP/GAP Baby/Kids/Old Navy and the new BR Outlet plus the new stores opening in the fall in Freddy and Saint John and possibly even the existing stores in Charlottetown (Old Navy/Gap Outlet). All the store managers would report to the General Manager in Moncton since they will now have a critical mass of stores in the region. Halifax area/NS stores would operate seperate under a NS general manager....along with the Moncton general manager likely reporting to a Halifax-based regional manager responsible for all Atlantic Canada....my 2 cents worth

the gap store and factory store sell for the most completely different clothes from each other though, a lot of the factory store stuff says GAP Factory Store on the label instead of just GAP, same with banana republic and old navy factory store which i haven't seen any of in Canada yet

Just a thought;

We have a Le Chateau store in McAllister Place and a Le Chateau Outlet store just up the street at East Point. They both appear to do fine. (Especially since the one in McAllister Place actually just expanded)

You never know MonctonRad, I wouldn't be surprised if you guys always get a Gap Factory store in the near future. I'm sure it would compliment the Champlain Place store just fine.

(I know - Not exactly the same thing, but Le Chateau and Gap both sell expensive clothing that's geared towards the thin crowds lol)

Ugh! Don't compare Chateau and GAP, two very different brands. I don't love the Gap, but they have some nice casual stuff sometimes; jeans, khakis.
Chateau is cheaply made nightclub-style clothing. Yuk!

Side Note unrelated to topic of conversation: My favorite clothing store at Champlain is Eddie Bauer.

Sorry, no worries, this is not a shout at you, it's targeted at Le Chateau.

Nonetheless, I highly doubt that these 2 can be compared with any of their business decisions. In any event, business companies in most instances do not like to plan outlet stores close to regular full-priced stores. Are the prices at these 2 joints really in the same ballpark, just crazy if so?!

I am not quite a fan of Le Chateau but they seem to do well enough while Eddie Bauer has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection twice in a span of ten years.

By the way, Le Chateau is geared towards skinny-trendy-young people while Eddie Bauer is covering a wide variety of lifestyles from active to low-key.

It would be like comparing Simons to Sears/The Bay....

Yes, but Eddie Bauer clothing is well made and of good quality regardless of their bottom line, it's not destroyed after a couple of rounds in the washing machine like old navy, chateau or H&M even. Simons is expensive but many things there are flimsy too, I know by experience. I don't know where this came from... but I said I like Eddie Bauer and did not compare them to Le Chateau, I also did not compare Gap and Le Chateau.

Well, it can be said for 95% of the clothe being bought these days but to be honest with you, I do not know anything about Eddie Bauer.

Furthermore, it depends what you get there as Simons is covering pretty much all demographic groups and is carrying a wide variety of quality brand names for all budgets including their own.

Anyhow... The Gap Outlet in SJ will be taking over the Urban Planet space. Urban Planet is closing down that location, the West side location will remain open.

Urban Planet is another place selling cheaply made stuff, as for the 2 locations in SJ, who was the business genius who though of that?

You are correct, 95% of clothing is cheaply made nowadays, things don't last and corporations want people to buy, buy, buy. Prices in clothing did not go up that much in recent years, but everything is made cheap in India, Bangladesh and China. Cheap prices, cheap stuff, buy new cheap stuff and the wheel continue spinning...
