The way this one is set up the offsetting works but the grid from the one made has the variances too close to be different.

Does anyone know what exactly is going in by Cabela's? It's too big to be a restaurant it seems.

Isn't that the Cameco HQ proposal from a few years ago that they walked from in favour of a decentralized concept?

I'm not sure, but is this something a moderator can help with?

That's what I was going to suggest! The Cameco logo is right on the building.

I agree, the current one is a bit busy (even though each picture was carefully selected and appropriate). Getting rid of one or two of the images would probably improve it a bit.

A fairly run-of-the-mill condo, but fairly tall for the area and located at Arlington and Louise (from what I can tell by the small apartment building in the back, at the right edge of the rendering). Tough to tell if the lane in front of the building is Louise or if it's the back alley just north of it. At any rate, another seniors' condo for the Market Mall area?
This has been an empty hole in the ground for at least 2 years across from the Teachers Fed Building on the corner of Louise and Arlington. Apartment block was knocked down and hole dug, but has not progressed beyond that for a number of years.

Two City Projects Receive Recognition for Planning Excellence

From City of Saskatoon website:

Two City Projects Receive Recognition for Planning Excellence

July 5, 2012

The Canadian Institute of Planners has recognized two City of Saskatoon projects in their 2012 Awards for Planning Excellence.

Saskatoon’s City Centre Plan Phase 1: Public Spaces, Activity and Urban Form Strategic Framework, has been awarded the 2012 Award for Planning Excellence in the New and Emerging Planning Initiatives category. The Plan is the first phase of a new City Centre Plan for Saskatoon, which encompasses the Central Business District, the residential area between 25th Street and Queen Street, College Drive, Broadway, and 20th Street to Avenue P.

The creation of a data “atlas” for the City Centre was realized in collaboration with the City of Saskatoon, Sweeny Sterling Finlayson &Co. Architects Inc., and the University of Saskatchewan Regional and Urban Planning Department. This category recognizes planning initiatives that supplement or precede more traditional planning efforts.

“This project has been an exciting challenge, and our team is very proud to be recognized with this national award,” says Public Spaces Project Manager, Jeanna South. “The real value of this baseline information will come when we revisit our data and assess - in a quantifiable way - how this area has changed over a given time period.”

In reference to river landing drawings, please remember, there is not one shovel in the ground yet. (and as said earlier, I personally don't think the condo tower will go ahead for another decade. Maybe the office tower, but not the condo tower)

Height restrictions being relaxed in River Landing Phase II

River landing reaches for the sky

By Charles Hamilton, The StarPhoenix

Quote:
The final piece of River Landing could eventually be home to Saskatchewan’s tallest edifice.

As part of plans to get more people living in the currently undeveloped River Landing area near the Farmer’s Market, a city report going before a citizen planning committee today recommends removing some height restrictions on developments.

“We are trying to make an economic business case and that comes with having people — either people buying there, living there, or shopping there,” said Alan Wallace, the city’s manager of planning and development. “The important thing is the density.”

Previous guidelines for the final pieces of the River Landing puzzle — with a combined value of $20.8 million — imposed height restrictions for any potential developers. The properties are all west of the Idylwyld Freeway surrounding the Saskatoon Farmers’ Market. Now defunct plans for an eco-housing community in the area directly west of the farmer’s market, for example, were restricted to four levels.

With some of those restrictions removed, Saskatoon’s riverbank could be home to 30-storey skyscraper, alongside developments on sites that include land that once housed the A.L. Cole power plant. If the skyscraper is built to 30 storeys, it would beat out a planned 27-storey structure being erected next door by Victory Majors Development Corp. on Parcel Y — the signature project of River Landing.

My understanding of the article is that piece of land will allow potential developers to construct a tower up to 30 floors rather than a developer actually proposing to build a 30 floor tower at the present time.

Market Saturation

Does anyone have any current downtown office space figures from June/July. As well, does anyone believe that with several low rise office tower (River Centre 1, Wall Street, 612mainstreet, etc), proposed, under construction, or almost complete, will saturate the market and thus push back highrise development such as River Centre 2 and the River Landing Projects? Or does Saskatoon have a low vacancy rate?

New Willowgrove schools to cost $30.6 million

BY JANET FRENCH, THE STARPHOENIX JULY 10, 2012

New joint public and Catholic schools in the Willowgrove neighbourhood will likely cost $30.6 million — slightly less than budgeted.

The Greater Saskatoon Catholic school board Monday approved the awarding of a $30.6-million construction contract to Ontario firm EllisDon Corporation for the construction of Holy Family Catholic school, Willowgrove public school, and a new child care centre in the northeastern Saskatoon neighbourhood. The price does not include GST.

“We’re anxious to start with construction and hope to be actually underway by the end of July,” said Don Lloyd, superintendent of administrative services for the Catholic school division.

Award of the tender still requires approval of the provincial education ministry and Saskatoon Public Schools’ board of education. The public school board is set to choose a bidder at a Friday meeting.

“I am very excited to be awarding this tender, and to tell the folks in Willowgrove, and to hopefully see some work on site in very short order,” public board chair Ray Morrison said Tuesday. Morrison’s ward includes Willowgrove.

The new Police headquarters' construction webcam shows progress of the 25th St extension creeping eastward. What appears to be curbing and concrete median is visible in the bottom left of the picture:

The Police building? 25th Street? Or both?

As for 25th Street, it's hard to believe that it's ACTUALLY finally happening.
