Surveyor

Anyone got a contact with a surveyor ? We are working on an overlay in & around Stadium station and I need to know the exact distance between two points, as there is some confusion over at the development office (as usual)

I know...I thought I would blow some smoke. It was so peaceful on here. No one really bought it...hopefully. I agree with Cold of course about vandals. Living downtown I have encountered little shits with paint cans on the steps by the Chateau a few times. And given there were 4 of them and just me - what can you do. I see the they or some other nitwits have this week painted the landing midway a nice bright yellow now. The City sends people out to erase the steps from time to time - thankfully.

There's always some sketchy characters hanging out on McDougall Hill. The po po make the occasional sweep through there but they need to do so more often.

I'm a bit suprised they're waiting so long. It's going to get scrappy for a lot of these developers all trying to lure buyers for their projects.

This one is in a much nicer location than the Skyline project though, so anyone who wants quazi-suburban on the west side will probably take a closer look at this one.

^I think WAM's focus is more on the arena district development versus Clifton.

Do you think they have the capital to pull off both projects at the same time?

I dont know their financial position....but me thinks Katz could have a influence on their arena area financing!!

^ I'd say the bigger question is whether there's a market for both at the same time. There's a lot of activity out there and there's going to be a lot of apartments for sale.

Clifton's a much nicer location IMO... but the Fox towers are probably an easier sell.... even though the design is straight out of 1992

Thank you for your email regarding your concerns with enforcement of meters on a day the City declares a day in lieu. It has been forwarded to the Community Standards Branch for a response.

I understand the frustration the public may have in regards to our enforcement practices on a day that follows a weekend Holiday, however a day in lieu of a Holiday does not exempt parking restrictions. Please note the Holiday Act sets out what days are holidays, what happens on holidays is set out in different Acts, such as the Employment Standards Code. For Parking meters, section 113 Bylaw 5590 sets out what days are holidays for traffic control devices, and when stating they do not apply on a Holiday, means July 1st. It makes no allowance for days in lieu and does not reference any other legislation for what is a holiday. July 2nd was not a holiday even if it was a day off work for some people. Parking Officers were on regular assigned routes patrolling parking violations. Parking Enforcement encourages compliance before enforcement and works towards a customer service approach with educating the public, warnings were issued for non safety violations on July 2, 2012 versus tickets.

Thank you again for taking the time to make an inquiry about Parking Enforcement Services. If you have further questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me directly.

Regards,

Erin Blaine
Parking Enforcement Coordinator
Community Standards Branch
Complaints and Investigations Section
Community Services Department
City of Edmonton

EDMONTON - The value of building permits issued in the Edmonton census metropolitan area for May soared by nearly 66 per cent, said Statistics Canada Friday.
Construction intentions were valued at $478.6 million in May, up from $288.9 million in April.

The value of building permits is down 16 per cent from $568.4 million a year earlier, but May 2011 was exceptionally high, said City of Edmonton senior economist Milap Petigara.

Building permits, which show an intent to build but are not always followed by immediate construction, are an economic indicator that can fluctuate considerably month to month.
