if that dark shade represents a shadow of highrise on the parkade portion of centerpoint ummm lets just say its gonna be 20 plus storys

looks like its casting a huge shadow on the pking lot and im assuming parkade gonna be about 5 to 8 storys

The shadow looks the same length as the Air Canada building, so it probably won't be more than 14 storeys for an apartment building.

Agreed, I'm really looking forward to it too...though I will miss walking in on sketchy people doing sketchy things during waterfront night-walks. The sheer humour of what happened around the docks sometimes was worth the experiences.

nooo the air canada bldg shadow is the same size leading to the ground

the shadow of center point residence is just as big and is over a structure thats already probly 5 storys plus high

when will lakeview begin work on the 11 story hotel they have planned for thier surface pking lot by the convention center...i still havent seen the reending for it but im sure itll comlpiment the rest of the shed aswell.. maybe add another club or sports bar in area

Entertainment district to see streetscaping upgrade

The streets in Winnipeg's concert, theatre and museum district will get a facelift that includes lighting that reacts to voices, clapping and movement.

The city is spending $2.5 million on the first phase of the streetscaping project in the cultural district, starting on Market Avenue. It will include new benches, wider sidewalks, better signage and new interactive light features nestled in the trees.

The cash is coming mostly from the proceeds from the sale of the Winnipeg Square parkade. More money will be needed next year for the next phase of streetscaping down Rorie Street.

Paying more to park in core

City agency seeks $2-per-hour fee at downtown meters

The Winnipeg Parking Authority is asking motorists to swallow bitter medicine to ensure there's a healthy number of parking spots on downtown's busiest streets. As early as this fall, parking rates on high-use downtown and Exchange District streets will double from a loonie to a toonie per hour, according to proposed changes that come before council's alternate service delivery committee this morning.

The same report calls for pay-parking hours to begin one hour earlier, at 8 a.m. instead of 9 a.m. Parking hours would also be extended to 8:30 p.m. from 5:30 p.m. on streets on nine city blocks around the MTS Centre.

That is still pretty cheap. Funny how people can get all riled up about any change to the status quo without putting it in the context of the how the rest of the world works. You can't drive anywhere for less than 2 dollars, but people do that without thinking, then they want fee parking when they arive at their destination. Same thing here in Saskatoon.

Yeah, its still pretty cheap. Compared to say Calgary or Vancouver, $2 is nothing.

Plus, if it deters more people from parking, that can't be bad!

according to the City Clerk's DMIS, the city surplus land at 219 Main is in the process of being sold to OGGI Investments, who plan to build a financial institution with the possibility of it being a 5 storey structure. It seems they want to have parking along one side of the lot right to the property line/sidewalk, which will hopefully be shot down.

I recall something smelly about that one ... who is OGGI Investments? Any chance it is the same stripper baron with property across from the former Post Office?

I don't see them shooting it down. Similar situation to that yoga studio that opened downtown where they allowed them to have a surface lot next to it. Katz' argument was that the only way to have anything there was if they agreed to the surface lot which is better than nothing at all.

I see it as being different given that this will be new construction.

The yoga studio was taking over a large vacant building and wanted/needed a few parking spots.

Just out of curiosity does anybody know what the status is of the condos that were supposed to be built beside Step 'N Out on Provencher? Those walls have been up forever and I haven't seen any action there whatsoever.
