Agreed totally. The grain one is the worst though, BUT like MTS did to the old Bank of Montreal building, a little light, neon, what have you and their roof would look a lot better at night at least.

Richardson, needs, to just also add more light to the structure, for some reason winnipeg likes to be dull at night. Never understood this as most cities in the USA have amazing tall structures like ours, only they are lite up properly. Even if they are ugly during the day, and lights are a lot cheaper then recladding.

Ad for the former Tri Z, the issue with it, if you remember when it was built it did not look like this, that cladding fadded in a large way, the windows , some which have been replaced with tinted ones really make it look patch for the ones that are not. But I agree with people that Both the richardson and Tri are going to need to be updated just for the sake of energy efficancy sooner then later. Be nice if they put some new roofs on them also, Not sure but can they even add stories to these two buildings, it would seem the Tri Z would be perfect for a smaller one built a top it as it is such a massive building, I rather see this then another twin beside it.

And the Radisson needs to replace that concrete ..........PUKE

Most of the larger parks have storage buildings to keep their maintenance equipment in.

Frasers Grove park has one as well.

I have to say that although i would not be in favor of a new building to have a design like the Richardson Bldg, i like the look of it and feel it has aged quite well. It feels like a strong building to me and it has strong vertical lines traveling almost to the top. Unfortunately i think it would be better if it wasn't a focal point in our skyline. I am one of the people who don't like our skyline except from the view of the Jubilee Interchange or Osborne Village area. I would really like some depth around the P&M cluster. I don't like how the 4 or 5 buildings around P&M stick out without not much around them. We need to work on the surface lots east and south of P&M - Parcel 4, and the rest along the rail tracks.

....either way, i agree the Artis Tower really needs a re-clad.

I noticed the 'Super 8' on my drive to/from Steinbach... I wonder if the 'Motel One' on the west side of town may be next to be rebranded back to a Super 8... This fellow doesn't appear to be doing that, but you never know.
Although just a super 8, its good to see money pumped into an aging hotel.

THE former Highway 1 Motel in east Winnipeg reopened on Monday with a new name, a new look and new owners.

Steinbach businessman Bob Schinkel and his son, Justin, have spent about $800,000 on upgrades to the 60-room facility, which is now a Super 8 Motel.

"We've renovated it entirely," Bob Schinkel said. "New drywall, paint, flooring, a new roof, a new front counter -- everything is new."

They bought the 23-year-old motel in early April for an undisclosed sum and closed it in May for renovations.

Bob Schinkel said the hotel, located just east of the corner of the Trans-Canada Highway and Highway 59, operated as a Super 8 for a number of years before the previous owners converted it to an independent operation. He said they returned to the Super 8 name for brand recognition.

The revamped facility will employ about 15 people, including 10 or 11 former Highway 1 Motel staff and four or five new additions, Schinkel said.

Looking at the plans its split 3 ways.

Storage for Whittier Park Baseball complex 400 sq ft, Festival Du Voyager 1330 sq ft, and Parks Dept 400 Sq ft. It also appears to have a fenced compound at the rear.

investers group stadium /grey cup
a strong winnipeg jets push in the playoff

im looking forward to 2016 to see how far this city has progressed by than.. im sure when we have the grey cup and opening of chrm lot of tourist will get to see how much the city has changed.. and it will give us a good opportunity to show that we arent some 🞵🞵🞵🞵 town in the middle of nowhere.

There remains some time to conclude the plan, as the deconstruction of the Mitchell-Copp Building is slow because workers cannot risk toppling the faßade, which is supported by steel and concrete bracing, while the rest of the Portage Avenue structure comes down. In the meantime, drilling rigs are on site, ready to begin placing piles, Stephanson said"

so they still dont know what they are goin to replace the norlyn bldg with hopefully another tower??????

hell when this mpi lots and convention center are done.... the shed is gonna look mighty impressive i think... i know long boat will try to bring a big name tenant to anchor one of the mpi lots im thinking h&m or something big... with all the young new residences thatll most likely be popping in the area that area is gonna demand some retail options s. the other mpi lot will prolly be residential tower.... mixed with some commerical development at the main floors. . if all goes well that part of the city will have more highrises than portage and main does


i think fourplay needs to redo the exterior of thier bldg it looks way to plain from the outside.

Yeah they appear to be planning a residence portion to the project.

It will be interesting to see what they end up putting there. Whatever it will be, will most likely be rental based. That's the part that has yet to be revealed, though I wouldn't bet on them putting a 20+ storey tower there. We'll see when they have the designs ready.

And I agree, the downtown - specifically this area - will feel very different with these three projects alone finished.

I really hope that whatever development replaces the MPI surface lot it includes a good ammount of parking in the plan. Any surface lot redevelopment in the downtown area should include replacement for the lost parking *plus* sufficent parking to meet the needs of the new development *and* have something that is not an open parkade on the ground level. I really like the design of 360 Portage but not including any significant parking caused a major spike in parking rates. If that continues to happen it will make future development of the remaining surface lots even more difficult as the revenue they can generate spikes.

I hope that the SHED, along with all developers involved, can WIN the hearts of such big names as H&M and others. That truly WOULD attract people to our downtown all hours of the day and on weekends. I'm just worried Polo Park and Seasons of Tuxedo will be putting up a good fight.

Weird...I was just up on the Sky rooftop patio checking out my cousin's new condo and I was going to take pictures of the construction sites as well.

Signs that things are really starting to ramp up in the east Exchange / Waterfront district. I am very excited to see the Sunstone Hotel and waterfront development get going. That will really change the 'abandoned and dilapidated' feeling of that section of the waterfront.
