My neighbor just texted me, apparently fencing is going up around the Cromdale right now.

We had a meeting the other day with all the stakeholders in the project, unfortunately we found out that the inside of the building has been completely destroyed, including all the murals and original fixtures. Was hoping to at least get photos

I hope so, my initial thought was that it was temp, but I didn't think they would use asphalt for a temporary measure. Looked pretty fresh to me.

Asphalt's actually great for a temporary patch. When you need to remove it you just heat it up and scoop it out... use it somewhere else

"temporary". CoE has a poor record on that though

They've been using asphalt for temporary patching along Jasper Avenue with the current renovations taking place - I'm sure it's only temporary along 10th Street as well.

They likely are waiting for the custom-made fittings around the manholes. That's my guess anyways.

I assumed the asphalt patches are going to be replaced by the islands with seating and landscaping...

Is it normal for permits to go through this late in construction? Because I work next to this lot, and there's been construction going on since the winter, they're quite far along.

Interesting, a bar/pub at the Alberta Hotel? Let's hope that when it opens, it doesn't end up a magnet for undesireable types like the Grand Hotel!

What is the stabby pub beside the Future Ukrainian Museum? Did it shut down? That would be a sweet place for a nice pub and condo/loft conversion. It all comes down to Quarters redevelopment momentum though.

This shows a glimpse of what it was like inside the York Hotel just before it was shut down:

Photographer captured final images of Edmonton's York Hotel

By Elise Stolte, edmontonjournal.com June 21, 2012 3:02 PM

EDMONTON - There are still thin towels and bars of soap by the sinks in each room, punch cards on the wall in the office. Graffiti on the walls and stained carpet. Cigarettes in the ashtray.

The old York Hotel, home to thousands over its nearly 100-year existence, was shut down when the police were getting more trouble calls each year from that one spot than from all the bars, shops and restaurants at West Edmonton Mall.

When photographer Michael James got the chance to peek inside the York, about a year after city hall barred the doors, he felt like he was rubbernecking at a car accident.

When CKUA first unveiled their plans for the building, they included using the pub as a live recording venue. I think it's a fantastic idea.

^^ York hotel
Yikes that's worse inside than I imagined. I've stayed in some sketchy places in my travels but not like that. Nice tile work on the bathroom floor though.
