Maple Flag 45 is scheduled to start May 28, 2012 and run its exercises until June 22. The Maple Flag open house – a chance for the public to meet with members of the participating nations and to get up close with some of the aircraft they brought with them – is scheduled for June 16, 2012.

Over a dozen nations are expected to participate in Maple Flag 45, including
France, the U.S., the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Brazil, Mexico, Germany, Austria, Holland and Singapore. The U.S. is planning on sending a contingent comprised of elements from the Air Force, the Navy and the Marine Corps. Roesler-Yue said the U.S. Navy is looking at bringing a squadron of Super Hornets, which would be a first for the Maple Flag exercise.

Other aircraft that could make first-time appearances at Maple Flag include the Hawkeye E2C, a U.S. aircraft equipped with airborne early warning systems and the Canadian C-130J, also known as the "Super Hercules."

The worst area is the transborder / international arrivals section. They need to block off a path for travellers or something. Everytime i pick someone up or travel myself, that area is filled with people greeting eachother. If only there was some courtesy then the "clusterf*ck" would be less significant.

I get the impression tht you guys are talking about two separate yet related areas.

One area is the drop-off or pick-up area outside the terminal where cars, taxis, and busses comingle with people.

Second area is the in terminal public areas prior to security around where passengers and their loved ones are reunited with bags or get the overly dramatic return from abroad greetings that outside Canada Customs.

Specifically for YEG, removing the VIP parking area on departures and removing the metered parking on arrivals would solve the identified issues.

For the international arrivals issues in the second area, not much can be done without heavy handed enforcement (by North American standards). I have seen the specially marked walking area used in major airports, but its always followed by a uniformed security patrol or in an area of the world where conformity with society norms is much greater than Canada. About the only thing that could be done is what is practiced at YVR, a series of railings and monuments designed to direct traffic comming from customs hall to the general area and prevent greeters from obstructing the passengers movement.

Nice seeing ATB adverts on the bridges. Fingers crossed for some new flights when fall skeds are released in the next few months. The growth so far this year has just been organic...slightly ahead of YYC.

300 per day over 54 one-way trips daily is between 5 and 6 people per one-way trip. Is that a good number? I'm assuming they were banking on people per day so hopefully there isn't any decrease in service. Seems like a good start.

Considering the C-Line had 2-3 people each time I was on it, i'd say so given its relative infancy.

Just want bring up a topic discussed quite a bit over the last few years-our long needed flight to Frankfurt.

I have talked to a number of family and friends who have travelled to Europe recently and got the same response. What flight did you Take? "Oh I took the Frankfurt flight out of Calgary" it really frustrates me when I hear this and I wonder about the impact that this one route could have on passenger service in Edmonton.

A regularly scheduled flight to Frankfurt is essential and I am just wondering if we are any closer to getting this route?

^^ not surprising. I remember flying regularly between 1992 and 1997 and in most cases the planes were less than half full. Air Canada ran a "luck seat" promotion during that time on every flight where they would be giving our aeroplan miles to one passenger on that particular flight. So if to fly from YXD to Lethbridge - I had two chances (one chance YXD-YYC, and a second chance to Lethbridge). The lethbridge flight often had fewer than 4 passengers on a 19 seat jetstream. I had probably won over a hundred thousand aeroplan points.

Can't remember if Sunwing had flights to LAS last year, but they just updated there winter to include 1X week.

MSP at this point looks like it will remain untouched for winter, which is good because usually we see a reduction to 2 flights a day.

IAH on UA returns 2x daily this winter as announced earlier

Still nothing new that isn't expected. If it wasn't for UA's and WS investment in YEG I would be scared to know where our city would be as far as air service today.

^well, that doesnt mean fewer people would be travelling - someone has to answer the demand. If you consider the number of passengers who fly out of Edmonton who originate in Edmonton and the number of passenger who fly out of Calgary who originate in Calgary, the numbers would not be too far apart. EIA post consolodation has gone from 3.7 million to 6.5 million. All that article said was airplanes are more full.

That's nice for you but some of us have family in the Southern US so that's just as important as getting into Europe IMO.
Either way, adding more flights anywhere is always a good thing.
