Agreed. Robson is beginning to feel a bit that way too with the HMV, Esprit, and Payless spaces sitting empty. You here about all of this clamouring for retail space while these areas are idle. I guess it is a matter of location and/or timing. Hopefully the vacating Starbucks won't stay that way for too long. Starbucks' worst nightmare is probably a JJ Bean or Blenz as a competitive replacement. I wonder if McDonald's would take it since they recently lost the one just down the street.

4th has got tons of vacancies also. What's going on?

Nobody is going in there at those lease rates. Seems like the landlords along Robson are getting way too greedy.

i remember seeing a story on the news years ago that the gap was actually losing money at their store on robson so it was subsidized by more successful stores cause the gap though the location was worth it - i wonder if they are doing better now - the gap itself has done a good turnaround company wide according to newer reportsm it was out of fashion for a while but they seemed to have found their gap again

I am not even sure if APPLE would want to move in. Once there is a demolish clause and tenants must leave with 1 month notice, what type of business would be willing to commit? Unless you can get a substantial discount on rent which is not the case here.

For the last fucking time, NO! Apple is not moving in. There were talks 4-5 years ago to kick everybody out (Red Robin, White Spot, Starbucks, Aritzia Base, etc), demo the building and build an Apple store. Obviously that didn't happen. Apple moved on. Starbucks is vacating because the asking rent is too high for their liking and they didn't want to sign a lease with a demo clause. Honestly I'd expect another coffee shop who wants a high exposure location to move in.

that space is very small - i doubt apple would want such a small space - unless they kicked out red robin, bell and dynamite and whatever the other store is for them

u can barely hold two lattes in that store its so small

^ That development application is for 1545 West 8th Avenue, just east of Fir and west of Granville Street. Immediately southwest of the site is a fairly recent 12-storey mid-rise building. I hope they enjoyed their English Bay views while they lasted.

A couple shots from the Werks on west 7th (just west of Cambie).

I find this is an interesting project as they are fitting 3 levels of parking on a 50' wide site. They do have the advantage of the P1 level being below the 7th ave grade, but still.
