Lots of people? I invite you to engage in some research regarding Cape Breton Island's economy, with particular attention to their tourism failures. I wish you were correct, actually. Unfortunately, Sydney, Nova Scotia receives mostly regional tourism from within the island.

And yes, the Cabot Trail and the Highlands are incredibly beautiful -- but no one argued against that.

Taking a stroll in my 'hood and it is very hard to find a seat in the cafe. Standing room only at Second Cup, Starbux and Timmy's. People standing over me as I type this out.

North York is gonna kill Yonge and Eglinton in 10 years no doubt.

Not so sure about killing Yonge and Eglinton

There a lot of big scale projects coming for that area too, E condos on Yonge is going to change things a huge amount, same with redo'ing Yonge Eglinton Center, if it ever happens

Oo and lets of projects for Eglinton east (around Mount Pleasant).

Time will tell.

North York has so much potential. All it needs is one architecturally great building to get the ball rolling. I just hope they don't screw it up by approving the same calibre of buildings they have in the past. North York is turning into a major node in the GTA and needs to up its game.

- A strong street apron with retail on the first floors
- Much better architecture
- Mature trees the whole length

North York still feels rather cold/uninviting/ordinary/depressing. It has a huge disadvantage in that there aren't any beautiful old buildings like the Royal York or Union Station.

My problem with North York as an urban centre is that it is physically one-dimensional. You turn off Yonge at any point and you're suddenly surrounded by single family homes. The place feels more like Mississauga than downtown Toronto to me.

I see your point by you are not using a good comparison ... if anything MCC feels more like a downtown as it has buildings / offices in many directories and not just concentrated on a central street.

This will never change in NYCC other then the streets parallel to Yonge just to the east and west and potentially Sheppard.

Yes, you have to stay on Yonge Street, to maintain the urban vibe feeling in North York centre. Stray to far to the edges, and you are in total suburbia.
