expressed in a new plan going to city hall for approval as early as this summer.
Umm, they haven't even applied to amend the zoning, and that process will take at least 10-12 months to go through the City. Unless they are expecting to 'submit' their rezoning application this summer. Then it makes sense.
Revised plan does look pretty good, I just really hope that the architectural standard is kept, as the existing CP buildings are quite nice. Wouldn't want to see a bunch of smaller Mayfairs here, for example.
Can't wait to see the Fluster Cuck this will turn out to be. LMAO... " Thin glass towers have no place in Edmonton" Seriously.....what a ________ !!! I can see about 7 mini Mayfairs.......nasty — split face cinder block and red and beige brick as far as the eye can see. This will end up being one giant pile of &%$@. Can't wait to see how they screw up the rest of their holdings DT with that philosophy. Suppose Edmonton isn't sophisticated enough for those thin glass towers.
Well, to be honest, I think it is a bit of a misquote. There is truth in the redesign though. Selling a Vancouver-designed community at suburban Edmonton prices doesn't work. The original design doesn't work for the current price of condos in suburban Edmonton and high labour/material costs.
Taking the density, and spreading it horizontal, where it can be built in a staged fashion, just makes more sense. Sure, we'll have to see about the final product, materials used, etc. But this redesign can work.

Thin glass towers have no place in Edmonton" That is pretty stupid to say! That kind of thinking is disappointing.
Their Redesign imo could just mean cost cutting in the end. It looks good for the layout....but I worry about the product!!
Nice to finally get an official Century Park update - but what's with the purple dinosaur?
Barney revivalism?

Agreed. Edmonton really needs to test out "Vancouver" designs in central areas such as Downtown, Oliver, North Edge, and Quarters where there is more likely to be interest before trying it out in the 'burbs.
As for 'thin glass towers'... I actually agree with him to an extent. We need more glazing that we are currently providing, but do not need to be in super high % coverage given our climate. 50-60% glazing is plenty good and still would be a step up for a lot of towers. Thinner towers we DO NEED and we need to orientate them properly.
^yes and no. I think it is a better mix, but some people much prefer tower living due to the views. They now have to compete mid-rise/low-rise with everyone else, central being the exception.
I know we should reserve political commentary for the alberta election thread, but I personally am sighing a little relief right now w/r/t RAM and the DT airport lands.
