My sister has stayed there several times over the past few weeks as she is working on a medical related documentary here in Edmonton... she really liked it there. She'll be dissapointed as she'll be up from Calgary at least every other week for several months, and finding cheap decent central accomodation for her & her crew will be difficult

The designs, layouts, variety and price ranges for new modern high-rises in this city is brutal.

I cannot imagine coming here from Van/Tor and looking to replace a condo from a 20-30 storey newer condo there.

The unfortunate, but totally expected result of local architects used by local developers that seem to think that projects like the Venetian are Edmonton's pinnacle of achievement.

Of course it does. But I find it hard to find something not run down that it "close" to the core for $400k. I'm not looking for 2000 square feet either. There are lots of homes that could be nice if fixed up - but I don't have the time/ability to do that - I'd just like a modern town home I can move into without any additional work.

chris, I know what you mean. There is a lack of 'moderately-priced' 'new' housing available in our downtown and mature communities. You can either choose a new apartment condo or single family house with little available in between such as modern townhomes or semi-detached housing priced between $450,000-650,000.

Hey everyone, check out the Edmonton entry on Wikipedia! I just went there randomly to see if anything's changed lately and it looks like someone has gone in and hacked it and is calling Edmonton the "City of Pigs", saying it's top industry is pig farming, etc... check it out, we should report it.

Noticed Construction fencing going up around the strip mall North of Westmount Mall and East of Meadowcroft Highrise. Could this be demo for the new apartment block mention some months back. between 114th and 115th ave and Groat Rd.

I believe that it's actually going to be taken down to make way for a new, large Rexall drugs establishment. The pharmacy that was in that building was our local pharmacy, and after talking with the pharmacist there, he said his franchise was bought by Rexall along with the rest of the building to build a new larger one.

That'll be interesting to watch, as I can see part of it from my living room window.
