^ that's not good.... and is so common through the greater munipal goverment. Try to deal with development or permits and it's nothing but red tape in so many city governments in Edmonton. Many, many of the beaurocrats thar run this city are beyond help

^indeed. We need to help facilitate these, not hold them up... even if that means transportation is not 100% in agreement with them. Obviously they cannot block roadways or sidewalks, but Tres Carnales should be able to put a row along their west facade.

EDMONTON - Construction is scheduled to start next month on a long-term plan to restore Jasper Avenue to its place of honour as Edmonton’s Main Street.

For much of Edmonton’s history, Jasper was the place to go for shopping and restaurants, but as malls and suburbs grew in the 1970s, the crowds downtown thinned.

A controversial makeover in the 1980s that included several blocks of concrete medians decorated with globes — described by one councillor as “bunkers with hand grenades at each end” — failed to stem Jasper’s deterioration.

A new vision approved in 2009 aims to change all that. This scheme, arising from the need to fix the water-damaged Central LRT station roof, is intended to revitalize downtown and put more pedestrians on the street.

The project will see sidewalks widened, less focus on private vehicles, and more development, stores and parks around Jasper from 97th Street to 111th Street.

The $44-million first phase involves overhauling Jasper between 100th Street and 102nd Street and completing the LRT roof repairs, says Paul Szczepanski, director of arterial roads design and construction.

“The actual streetscape there is old, it’s dated, it’s in poor condition, it’s very busy.”

Interesting Proposal for St Albert.
but in the current climate of " we do not need artsy fartsy" I don't see this happening any time soon. But I would contribute to it if It goes to fundraising.

Speaking of St. Albert, we were out that way yesterday to check out the new Holes'.... quite the place. Very boutique-y style with some really nice plants, a food market, kitchen store and lots of other stuff. Very well done... although super expensive.... still worth the drive to at least visit and maybe have a glass of wine and a panini

Went there last year to buy a gooseberry bush. Price was alright.

There selection of planters and random items like that is probably the best in the city.....but yeah...$$$$

Wife and I go by most Sunday afternoons for a drink after taking the dog for a walk. They have YH on tap.

There is a wine an food event coming up at the bistro, which was excelent last time we went.

As for buying plants, I buy "My Shrubery" at Greenland, and bedding plants at a small greehouse north of St Al.

On the weekend I noticed the 70's style glass canopy has been removed from the west parkade entrance at City Centre Library. I seem to recall that there was renovation for the parkade ventilation scheduled. I didn't know there was also cosmetic renos as well.
