It will be shorter than the current FCC tower.

You are correct. An old friend of mine actually started this company up for about $50,000, then sold it to a German company about a year later for 3 million dollars. He doesn't live in Regina anymore, and I don't keep in touch with him. Funny how things turn out.

Originally (1993?) the second tower was supposed to be shorter than FCC I which is 14 floors, but they have acquired more land so who knows what they might build. It does not have to be 100% leased by FCC. I am sure the new tower would be at least 150K sq. ft., which probably means 10-15 floors depending on floor plate.

The FCC-II spot is really the perfect spot for a new tallest tower, maybe in the 25-30 floor range since it sits almost right in the middle of the cluster. I'm gonna hope for some sexy tall slim tower... But doubtful it would happen due to how conservative the Hill company is.

I expect the floors to be contiguous with FCC I so they get the benefit of larger floor plates. Therefore it is is likely to blend in with the design of FCC I. It could even end up looking like a fatscraper.

So in between the heights of FCC I and the Hill Cluster - that'll be a nice compliment to the skyline, and fill in the gaps when approaching the city from the east and west.

This is completely contrary to what the Cornwall Centre was saying just a few weeks ago. Maybe head office and the Saskatchwan franchisee are not communicating.

I'm not surprised by it... right after Christmas Lululemon said the exact same thing (with the rumour, I was hoping they were reconsidering). Kind of sad/pathetic that they are abandoning their domestic market that helped them grow to the level that would allow them to expand beyond our borders, but oh well.

Curious why the city wouldn't let the vendors on the plaza now. Seems like a good fit to me, at least in limited quantities.

What I heard was that it was going to be built south of the current tower and adjoined to the existing tower by the annex. Not quite the same as you stated.

In the past it was always stated that the annex was supposedly built to be the base of a second tower but in the end the annex will just be a "bridge" as it were. That is based on the most recent information I heard.

That makes sense since they paid a fortune in the last few years to buy the buildings to the south. I wonder if they would not add a few floors to the bridge.

Nominated in the “artifact” category, it was designed and executed by Paul Raff, a Toronto architect born and raised in Saskatoon, and Jyhling Lee, a Saskatchewan architect who divides her time between the two cities — and in an interview on Friday happily cited its “very strong appreciation of, and connection to, the Saskatchewan landscape”.

If “Regina Gateway” looks like the bones of a buffalo, then you’ve grasped one of the themes envisioned by the architects: the magnificent prairie animal that gave this city its original name, “Pile of Bones”, and its Cree version, “Wascana”.

“It’s almost like the spine of the bison has come out of the ground,” Lee said.

Translation, all street level retail (cheaper rent) will be totally gone from that street and will never recover. Also with demolition of residential and commercial space down the street by the delta for which will become a vacant dirt lot. Face palm.
