Good point about government. The 6.1% growth occurred despite the provincial government contracting its workforce by 5% (ish).

One thing I would like to see when I come on down to Regina is a overpass at Pasqua and Ring Road. Anything like that in the works in the near future? That intersection is always busy whenever I'm there and seems like it could really use a overpass.

They've been studying that intersection for a little while, and I think it will be the next one that gets done in the next couple years.

I wonder the same thing about the Lewvan, especially south of the airport. That section used to flow quite fast all the way to the Trans-Canada (because there was nothing to stop for!) but now with new intersections at Parliament, Jim Cairns Blvd. and Gordon Road it's an "Expressway" with traffic lights (kinda like Circle Drive used to be, before they started building overpasses).

I still remember the good ole days when the train tracks crossed Lewvan at 1st Ave N. before they built the underpass there....

Unfortunatly it the RWB won't be very useful to city traffic until the leg north to 9th North is created Pinky road is upgraded to asphalt, and courtney is put through to dewdney. Also when dewdney is re-paved between McCarthy and Courtney st south.

But it will do a good job at keeping trucks off of major city roads.

This has always been my concern. Yes creating a bypass around urban areas eases highway congestion from impacting urban roads, but little does it ease congestion in the urban areas. Most of the traffic we encounter on Lewvan is local traffic. Maybe 5 out of 100 vehicles is traffic simply passing from highway to highway. Let's face it, our inner city infrastructure is really being ignored. If it wasn't being ignored we would have interchanges at Pasqua and the Ring Rd. and Saskatchewan Dr. and the Lewvan by this time.

Reported last night on CBC News, the upgrade and expansion of Mosaic Stadium (to include 7,000 new theatre-style endzone seats, new videoboards, and 27 corporate suites) is now underway. Should be ready by late June, bringing the capacity to 33,000 in a bowl-like configuration.

I agree. I was in Saskatoon a couple weeks ago and thought the same thing. The traffic there is crazy.

More (higher) population doesn't automatically mean more congestion btw. If the roads were planned out properly it wouldn't be hectic to drive in like it is in north Saskatoon (especially).

Didn't really mean it as a dig. Just an observation. I thought Saskatoons CMA was around 26500 and Regina was around 22000. I guess that's 45000.

Actually, according to Stats Can, the population difference between Saskatoon metro and Regina metro is 53,300 people as of 2011.

The CMA's between the cities are completely different though. Saskatoon's CMA includes a ton of decently sized communities (Martinsville, Warman, Dalmeny, etc), Regina's is pretty much just farm land except for White City.

That's why I said "All things equal", looking at population inside city limits only, Saskatoon is 34,000 more.

That's enough about this though. Back to construction talk...

On the note on Regina's CMA. I wouldn't be surprised to see Moose Jaw added in. Our CMA ended where Moose Jaw's starts and the commute patterns are increasingly favoring amalgamation.

Having an extra 40,000 in the CMA would do wonders.
