When I got my red pass for YEG they dug into my personal life pretty thoroughly

They did me as well, asking about my wife's parents and family history, I'm sure they even found my communist millionary grandfather.

CSIS was easier to get past that getting my Red Tag.

Yes they found out that my dad, an accomplished (now retired) attourney, was detained at a Communist Party of Canada rally at Dalhousie back in '67

Probably designed for long-term growth that isn't needed now, so it is leased out in the meantime.

What is the market for this, given security clearances? Existing airport uses? Meeting space for O/G offices?

Calgary has some office space very near the terminal so not totally unprecendented locally, but with the issues you mentioned I could see issues with leasing the extra space out here in #yeg. Hopefully they can find a compatible tenant.

Originally constructed for Canadian Airlines as the primary/lead tenant.

How much larger is the new tower versus the old one?

Any avgeeks there is a Sata air A310 at YEG on a troop charter.

Who's private BBJ 762 is sitting just south of of the old Spar hanger? I say "private" though i don't actually mean that, it's just got relatively non-descript colours.... Could it be Ryan International's? I noticed one flying in earlier this week.

^yep flightaware indicates it would be a swift air 767-200 and as bigtine said it is the ride for the Dallas stars. The Sata A310 routed in from Keflavik Iceland. But likely started its journey from Dubai, I'm assuming the CAF A310's must have been tied up.

Ok, I do remember seeing (radar blip, naturally

not actually 'seeing' it) when it was YYC inbound. Thought the Stars had their own '57 that they shared with the Rangers... Busy with grapefruit league? In any event, the '67 looks pretty nice in BBJ style colours. Tough way to travel. Nothing performs like a 762!!!

Not sure what happened to the 757 but they haven't used it in a bit. I recall pulling upto to work here in Cancun one day and seeing a 763 at the fbo. Apparentley it's a Russian business man Roman ??? Something or other but he owns a 767-300 that's business configured. Now that's a ride!!!

tuffyy, i just got back from Cancun. What happened to Terminal 1? They butchered the departure "A" gate area with stores in between every gate. This used to be a great spot for viewing some interesting aircraft. I also noticed CUN uses the same approach with the Duty Free area as YEG in the US departures area, you have to walk through Duty Free to get to your gate. Perhaps this will become the norm in many airports in the world. Too bad Cubana's TU 204 doesn't park closer to the "B" gates. I would have liked to look at that aircraft a little closer.

First of all I hope you had a great vacation! Did you enjoy the gp???

Terminal 1 has been under going heavy renovations since 2009, yep it was a favorite for many spotters. As for the new approach to duty free I think you will see this at many airports as it obviously generates revenue.

Yep cubanas TU-204S both pax and freighters have become a regular visitor for us alongside the YAK-42 and occasional IL-62 from the airline.

There are plans in place to eliminate terminal 1 entirely once another new terminal is constructed beginning in 2014.

Also keep in mind the new airport for the Riviera Maya in Tulum is still moving ahead once all the politics are finished with. Initially it appears it will have a single terminal with 16 gates plus 7-8 remote stands. Interest in the new development has been very strong as many airlines have expressed a interest in operating to the airport when concentrating on offering packages to the area south of Cancún. We expect it to be a popular location while not overly impacting traffic into the current Cancún airport.

Harper is flying around selling the country.

An it was a CAF charter, had another neighbor arrive home from Afganistan.
