That screen shot of Corner 1 @ EDC looks nothing like the one on BCM's website.

Comparison:

Actually the EDC presentation render looks like clifton place by BKA.

Mewonders if the image on BCM is just a placeholder image, or were just really confused here.

That screengrab is of a different elevation than the BCM one. But they are not the same design either.

Corners 1 and 2 look much better in that rendering.

Liking the hilton, even if a bit much perhaps. Corner 1 will be interesting, not sure what to think. Now lets hope VPI gets their project on the go and the Quarters will really begin to have change.

Hilton looks amazing, I literally can't stop looking at it. Descrepencies between Corner One renderings make me very nervous about the final product. If it actually turns out like the journal rendering I'll be pleasantly surprised.. but the EDC elevation is 27 stories of pure meh.

The Hilton is awesome! Funky lines at the front, and I really like how close and how interactive it is with the street.

The screen grap is about 30% shorter.

It's a new name. Historically it's been known as Boyle Street, but I'm presuming its negative connotations prompted the name change.

I don't like the name "the quarters" but I can understand the change. There is no Boyle street, and the only things that bear the name are the Boyle street coop which isn't even close to Boyle street, and the Boyle street health centre. Both are service organizations serving homeless and disadvantaged, so it's a difficult name.

Quarters is only part of the Boyle street neighbourhood, though.

Not sure what to think of the Hilton. I'd like to see more angles and clearer images first. However, it is Dub so I'm guessing it will be good and it looks very promising. Corner One...meh. The buildings don't look bad per se, but 95th St and Jasper is supposed to be the Five Corners, a major intersection. I would've hoped for something akin to what EV (more on that later) in Calgary is getting. To me, this is like getting cardboard suburban box condos to fill up 124 St/102 Ave, 109 St/Jasper, 104 St/Jasper, 101 St/Jasper, and 104 St/Whyte. It's nice to see the lot filled, but I'd rather it not just be filled with anything, even if anything is better than nothing (obvious exceptions of course). I'd rather Valleyview go ahead first, especially considering it would be right by the Armature and Dub's Hotel (is it still gonna be a Hilton?), which would focus revitalization efforts in the 96 st vicinity and slowly push eastwards.

Have you guys seen what's going up in Calgary's equivalent of the Quarters, East Village (EV)? Totally kicking the Quarters ass. I think plans for the Quarters have been in place for longer than EV, but correct me if I'm wrong. Despite this, there is so much more going on in the East Village. And the quality? Much higher caliber. I couldn't imagine a Calgary equivalent of BCM developing in the East Village. Instead, they get this:

Not to mention an already built and hugely successful Riverwalk along the Bow.

Makes me think how much Edmonton's architecture and planning is still stuck in the 20th century overall. However Valleyview and the Dub Hotel appear to be good quality buildings. But Corner 1 on a major intersection? Not to mention the ICONs on downtown's premiere street and the same guys planning 2 more of these? Even Ultima, which is a very nice looking project, don't get me wrong, that would fit nicely in Calgary or Vancouver or Toronto, doesn't meet the quality of the projects pictured above.

^ Preceisely......although I continue get bashed on here for bashing our crappy outdated architecture.

Everybody must know how negatively this effect the perception of the city in comparison to others when we continue to build sub par uninteresting comi-block style buildings.

If your looking to relocate for work or change of scenery form another part of the world where would you go based on what you see being posted about various cities in Canada........aside from ease of finding a job the urban fabric is grossly lacking and trying to fill the void quickly with a bunch of suburban garbage isn't going to help the perception.

But that's the difference between demanding better and accepting good enough.....or it's better than a parking lot.

Tony, I realize that not every building need be to the caliber of Pixel in Bridgeland. If you look on the Calgary Construction Page, there are some uninteresting and ugly looking projects. However, they are mitigated by the fact that there are stuff to the quality of Ultima, the Pearl, and Cecil Place as well as stuff to the quality of AGA, this Dub Hotel, and even higher quality. If Corner 1 were not on a major intersection, I probably wouldn't have the same issues.
