I think in Canada it's a very close call for #2. So its a matter of personal preference, as for density.

IMO - Calgary #2 / Montreal and Vancouver toss-up for #3

It's so close... One building could change everything up!

I reckon it's all a matter of personal taste. Having visited all of the country's major skylines in the past 6 months, my favorite without question is Vancouver. On a purely aesthetic level, it's supreme. Toronto is massive, but isn't as nice looking as Vancouver. Calgary is another monster, but it lacks charm, character and history.

Montreal's weird. Some angles make the skyline look unimpressive, others make it look like the king. It won't ever be back to #1 though. In fact, I don't think it ever was #1 (save for that brief period in the early 60's).

This view really shows how the Jamieson tower is facing the wrong direction, the more dramatic side of the building is facing away from the river . Whoever was in charge there really screwed this one up!

I agree that on an asthetic level you can't touch Vancouver.

Vancouver is Cape Town and Toronto is Johannesburg
Vancouver is Rio de Janerio and Toronto is Sao Paulo
Vancouver is San Fransico and Toronto is New York City

You see even with taller and more buildings you can't win them all!

Montreal's skyline is superb and has a ton of character even if it hasn't changed in several years. I don't think anyone can claim one skyline to be better then another outside of their own opinion. Each skyline has it's good, it's average, and it's bad angles to choose from.

While I haven't been so lucky as to have visited all of Canada's major skylines, I do more or less agree. For whatever reason, Vancouver's skyline is consistently gorgeous to me... my favourite in Canada.

I just think it is absolutely ludicrous to say that Calgary's skyline is number two.

Why? Just because it is modern? I don't get it. Both Vancouver and Montreal outpace Cal by leaps and bounds. It's not that I dislike the Calgary skyline or have anything against it... I suppose I just don't see what others see.

I can somewhat see why seemingly everyone puts Toronto at the top... but Calgary at number two? No f*ckin way...

Toronto has height, density, iconic towers and landmarks, history
Vancouver has density, iconic nature, stunning natural setting, historic buildings, sweet modern buildings
Montreal has height, density, stunning classical skyscrapers and cool modern architectural diversity
Calgary has density and one wicked modern skyscraper and some other nice modern skyscrapers.

I'd have to say that Montreal is a favourite because of it's mix of buildings and the setting of being on an island with a 'mountain' also being a backdrop for the city.

Their skyline really is eclectic, there are some real gems in Montreal. There is also lots of character. To me height and density isn't everything.

Calgary should not even be compared to these other cities. It is way too small comparatively. The last 5 - 10 years have brought very significant changes and so many more to come. Let us know what you all think when we reach 2 million. Until then, we are doing amazing in terms of having a nice urban core.

10 years ago I would not have shared the same enthusiasm, but now things are feeling very pedestrian and LRT oriented. The strong focus on the redevelopment of the inner city has really resulted in some great changes and more to come.........

You cant just come here and drive around....you have to walk the city to see the interesting parts. And whoever says Calgary lacks charm, has not been here during lunch hour in the summer on the pedestrian-only Stephen Ave. Its like a festival every day. Walking has become a huge part of the Calgary lifestyle and I love it.

I'd disagree with the bolded. Vancouver's buildings (aside from Woodwards) are in no way, shape or form iconic or at least no more so than Calgary's. Some angles, it looks like the same condo duplicated 100 times over. I too love Vancouver, but it's hardly for the iconic skyscrapers. I love it for it's street level vibe, pristine setting, the ocean etc.

Same could be said for Vancouver in relation to Toronto, as it's only has half the population. How bout we just stop drawing comparisons in general and enjoy the beauty of each city as they are.

Unfortunately many people who post here can't do it without putting down other cities to make theirs seem better. Just try to ignore them.

i love vans skyline. the city calgary; however, imo , has this. the buildings are much bigger and there is alot more of the bigger buildings all set in a perfect skyline grid. it is much bolder in person compared to vans. its just seems bigger up close. i don't mean in area. not in that way. just the scale of the towers. i guess that's what i am trying to say.
