There was a huge old house that sat there. Since it had been abondoned for several years & was in really rough shape, the owner might just be tearing it down for liability reasons.

How does a city that's growing so fast not need any highrises?

First of all we were overbuilt and for a few years even if a development company wanted to build a highrise they probably couldnt get financing. everyone knows that. Also right now we have two apt highrises and one hotel highrise under construction with two museums on the way and possibly more highrises coming soon. So there is deff a need for highrises that why were building some right now

Developers considering apartments next to Atlanta Waterworks reservoir on the Westsid

According to documents filed with the city, the Worthing Southeast Corporation, a Dunwoody-based apartment developer and management firm, has asked the city to rezone the 5.3-acre parcel on Huff Road from industrial to high-density residential — the first sign that a development is in the works. The company's also asked the city to amend the area's comprehensive development plan to reflect the change.

The Civil and Human Rights Museum is a done deal, but what's the other museum that's on the way? I remember both Ripley's BION and Madame Tussauds being proposed at one time or another.

I wish the city would build a Natural History Museum (Castleberry Hill?) or put one where the Civic Center is now. The Fernbank is a joke... there are more dinosaurs at the airport.

Growing up in Pittsburgh, my parents took my sister and I to the Carnegie Museum throughout the year and to the Smithsonian during the summer. I have a lot of great memories from those trips. I wish there were something comparable (to the Carnegie I mean) here in Atlanta so that I could take my niece.

Caterpillar bringing up to 2,400 jobs

Not highrise-related, but probably the biggest piece of economic development news in the state in a year.

I believe the other museum he might have been referencing was/is the College Football Hall of Fame.

Yes that's the one. has anyone heard any news about the college football hall of fame? Or any updated news about when the civil and human rights museum on when it will break ground?

Two pile drivers now on site at 12th&Midtown for the new apartments.

Pretty soon we'll have three cranes within a few blocks of each other in Midtown.

Anyone have any info on Uniqlo coming to Atlanta. Would love to see them in Midtown. I see a few vague job listings for the store and they have a massive expansion planned in the US.

There are pretty good museums and other attractions in Atlanta that I'm sure are at least nearly comparable to Pittsburgh's. Even if you don't think the cultural offerings are comparable, there is still plenty of entertainment in Atlanta to keep your niece busy.

U.S. cities are swimming in highrises and there is still an ocean of sprawl all around them, so highrises don't prevent sprawl...not even close.

Walked by Skyhouse today. They are making tremendous progress. About ten columns poured up to ~20', and another dozen or so poured up to ~10'. 77 12th moving a lot slower.
