(a) an enactment that requires, in the use or development of

(b) an enactment that requires, in the use or development of

^Actually no. MacEwan only changed their name to include 'university'. So they don't actually fall under Section 121 of the PSLA. In order to be recognized under Section 121, they (MacEwan) would require Ministerial consent.

That was Stantec's placeholder concept for funding. There is a selection process ongoing for the actual Team.

Placeholder guys. There was a RFP a few weeks ago and now a shortlist. The design will look nothing like that in all likelihood.

I've heard that there are some interesting teams that submitted proposals for this.

For those who haven't seen / heard, the Mayfair scaffolding and "unveiling" has been coming down - looks quite good imo! Looking forwards to seeing the fully finished structure, not to mention Mayfair North pounding through.

Both MacEwan and Mount Royal were upgraded to a baccalaurate and applied research institute from a comprehensive community institution. They cannot use the name "university" without being established by the Lieutenant Governor (section 3 of the PSLA). It is not the same as Kings University College, or Concordia University College. These are independent institutions and they can use the name "university" in their title, but it has to be followed with the word "college". Only an independent inst can do this but they are not considered a university. But GMU and MRU have the university distinction. They are still not the same class as the UofA or the UofC (or UofL or AU). These are considered "Comprehensive Academic and Research Institutions."

City gets tiny increase in infrastructure money
Province has to show restraint, minister says

Keith Gerein
Edmonton Journal

Friday, February 17, 2012

Edmonton will receive $167 million for infrastructure projects this year through the province's Municipal Sustainability Initiative, the Alberta government announced Thursday.

The amount is almost the same as last year's $164.6 million, which the city put toward road improvements, LRT signals and a pool rehabilitation, among other things...

Was this the big announcement by the Mayor or is there more to come. On another note, i can,t beleave that Calgary gets far more for MSI funding then Edmonton. If Edmonton wants to be in the big league then Edmonton must find a way to build the arena and also vigoresly compete with Calgary for corporate head offices. It seems that Edmonton will always be secoond to Calgary if we keep on the same track.

The fact that both cities seem to be upset and think they are getting the shaft when it comes to provincial dollars leads me to believe that funding is relatively balanced.
