HOWEVER. There needs to be a viable market for the renovation to begin with. Winnipeg has a great stock of buildings to utilize but suffers from ridiculously low lease rates. Much of the Exchange is populated with tenants paying between $4-8/sq ft. This is why we are seeing primarily condo development more than anything. Condo and home prices in general are climbing rapidly and makes the most business sense for the redevelopment of small warehouses into residential.

The problem is finding tenants for the retail space on the main level or finding a business that is looking for a large space to lease so that a building can be redeveloped into a fully commercial space.

If anything, City Hall should be working to encourage more businesses to operate in the downtown core and the rest will follow.
If I ever had the money (or ever had the chance to own one and move one), I'd get my business there.

I wish I had a good camera I'm always working in places with awesome views of the city.

Iphone pics taken from rooftop of 1750 Pembina Hwy (16 storeys up). Great view of downtown as well as the new stadium.

I know everyone always said that the stadium wouldn't be finished on time. I never had any good pictures with which I could give an opinion, but upon seeing it I don't see how they could be finished in 5 months. Do you think they purposely lied about the date so that they would drive up sales for an extra season?

I see, so then, it would be ~ Radisson Hotel height. So not in the top 10 then

(oh well. ATL won't be either I presume.)

Ah wow, thanks a lot for this image. And that STARS chopper position now makes much more sense; I think we should add this image to the front page cause it clears up the overhead view of all the HSC redevelopment. Wow, that's a lot of stuff. Thanks for the image Biff.

Thanks for the pics man, and yeah that skyline view - if it was clearer - is pretty slick. Totally different than what we usually see.

I saw the stadium up close today....all i can is "wow". Its going to be amazing when finished.

Look back in the thread, 1ajs posted a few I believe.

And the lot west of MPI, but south of the CTV building and north of a church

Here, hopefully this helps. These are the projects off the top of my head that are expected to be under construction within the next couple of years (most hopeful for 2012). These are all new construction on empty lots (a couple are demo of existing). This does not include at all, any of the many redevelopments or renovations that are occurring in downtown....and there are lots.

Preliminary design for Kenaston approved
By: Staff Writer
Posted: 01/26/2012 1:00 AM | Comments: 40 (including replies)

CITY council voted in favour of a preliminary design that will see Kenaston Boulevard eventually expand to six lanes from four between Ness and Taylor avenues.
The plan is to widen the roadway on the west side by acquiring land from Kapyong Barracks and on the east by acquiring about 50 homes. The approval gives city staff the ability to negotiate with homeowners on the proposed route....

You should put it in the future canadian skylines thread! I put mine in there, but they seem to focus more on Tokyo than Canada...

Is dubrovnik shut down? It was open in the fall....

There's also an empty plot at the corner of Assiniboine and Kennedy that they could be referencing.

This is pretty awesome....1ajs do you think we could add these two pics to the front page - maybe on the bottom or something, just to get an idea of where all the developments will be happening?

Biff, I was under the impression the WCC Expansion may also bring redevelopment to the second lot just to the east of the one you have highlighted?

.....ehhh, I don't think it would excite anyone except us Winnipeggers. The Canadian Skyline thread is mostly for Toronto's weekly 60 storey building announcement. I like our own little piece of the universe.

Thanks for doing that, Biff.

The one project there is Osborne North (at Osborne and York) I believe....does anyone know if they've landed any tenants?

I've seen the sign sitting there advertising the project for forever now...it'd be a great surface lot to fill up.
