If it wasn't a hospital, i'd fight this one all day long... ridiculous actually, but given the need to wheel patients and the like, I guess it is 'needed'.

That pedway is so long they might as well ad a conveyer belt.

We might also see golf carts beeping around and doctors riding segways.

Churchill LRT ticket machines will sniff out terrorist threats

By Bill Mah, edmontonjournal.com
January 10, 2012

EDMONTON - Train riders validating their tickets at Edmonton’s Churchill LRT station will also have them scanned for explosive and radioactive materials this spring.

Under a federally funded pilot project, ticket machines at the station will be modified to sniff out potential terrorist threats in a test of technology aimed at boosting safety for commuters without slowing them down with airport-style lineups...

I'd rather see them modified to sniff out stinky passengers. Seems more useful.

It's a simple trial of the system paid for by grants provided by the Fed's. Transit systems often seek these types of grants.

Proposed LRT route poses risk to shoppers: lawyer

Elise Stolte
Edmonton Journal

Thursday, January 19, 2012

The city's preferred downtown LRT route would cut through the Saturday 104th Street farmers market, putting the lives of shoppers at risk, says a lawyer hired to represent those opposed to the route.

The intersection where 104th Street connects with 102nd Avenue - the city administration's preferred downtown connecting route - is normally closed to traffic Saturdays and filled with children, artists and shoppers, said lawyer Sol Rolingher, speaking after city council referred the issue on Wednesday back to committee...
