I agree with you about using the Texas Sabal Palm. I have a few in my yard, and they are highly under rated considering they do so well here.

Same here. The more palm trees the better. Never heard of the Sabal Palm; will have to look it up.

I have one in my back yard and it is very hardy, while other palms get damaged during severe freezes the Texas Sabal Palm which can grow as far north as Dallas does just fine. Im not sure if there are any natural pockets left in the Central Texas area other than in Gonzales County where the Palmetto State Park is but they are a native species to Texas. They are slow growers but they can get large and can grow to more than 30 feet in height with large palm fronds. They do not have any spikes on their frond spines unlike the California or Mexican fan palms. There is a lone Sable Palm along Airport Blvd by the train tracks I guess that is easiest location if you are interested in seeing one.

Yeah, too many buildings are hidden, and the perspective is misleading. Still a nice photo, though.

Last time I posted I spoke about this apartment high rise at the old Whitley print site. The renders have improved but this brown two tone color scheme that has become an institution in design for residential and hotel projects is getting quite old. They look cheap and soon will look dated.

They are owned by someone else. So they will not be razed for the hotel.

How does this pic make Austin look bigger? Austin is a city of 800,000 people inside the city limits. There are cities that are smaller that have skylines twice the size of Austin's so I don't really follow you on your assumption. IMO Austin's skyline has just recently caught up to where it should be for a city its size though I will not complain once it gets even denser and taller.

The city proper size matters quite a bit less than the overall metro size. However that shot makes the city look bigger than San Antonio at 1.3 million city proper/2 million metro. It even looks much bigger than Fort Worth which has a comparable ~800,000 in the city proper and a much larger population in the county. You live in Texas you know how sprawly our cities are.

If you think otherwise that's fine. It is a truly great picture of how far Austin has come in the past 10 years

Austin, San Antonio, and Fort Worth are very similar sized cities in the 1.7-2.1 million range. They also all have very diminutive skylines for cities of their size. I think Austin's skyline is finally catching up to what a city of ~2 million should look like.

On another topic.... does anybody have pics of the current developments in West Campus. Anybody have info on the developments on 22nd/Rio Grande/Nueces/San Antonio?
