I didn't find it gross, just underwhelming..... Most chain breaky places are.

Greasy spoon diners always do the best breakfast

I love eating at Cora, if I can ever get a table, simply for the sheer amount of fruit they give you. I like it

Harpo and the veterans affairs minister is in town to make an announcement. Apparently at the Boilermakers training facility?
He may be here for the remand centre opening, but that wouldnt explain the vet affairs minister being here.

They give you a lot of fruit to divert your eyes from the fact you're meal is a tiny portion... unless you get the pancakes which are huge but unfortunately very gross. Stay away from Cora its a total rip off chain. I'll take a hole in the wall diner any day.

I thought Cora's whole mantra revolved around massive amounts of fruit, I don't think they add it as filler to mask the other breakfast items, I think it's the main focus of their restaurant.

The best, cheap greasy spoon downtown is Commodore, right beside Audrey's Books. I love the hole-in-the-wall feeling that makes you feel like you could be in a a dumpy area of a rust-belt city, or even a small diner in a mid-western town. The dirt and grime give it the character.

That area deserves some brand new infill.

My regular haunt for greasy spoon, love it there.

That said, whyte has a bunch of awesome indie breaky places as does 99st.

^ yes it is. BKA tweaked it a bit, more glazing, plexi balcony rails... it should turn out alright.

Very bizarre construction method on this one

My favorite's Rick and Alice's on 109th st. at 71st ave. The owners are lovely, and I feel like family there.

That and their portion sizes are human sized.

So news windows have been put in at the cool older brick apartment on 114st just north of Jasper. I hope they do a full reno as it was needed, but glad to see it coming back to life.

Any development related predictions for 2012 (other than arena)?
While it may not be in 2012, I would predict that the Edmonton Motors site downtown will be sold and the business will move to another location in Edmonton.
In the 90's the dealership was having trouble staying in business and Don Wheaton, believe it or not, bought the land in order to prop up the business. With the passing of Mr. Wheaton, I would guess that the family may want to sell off the land which would force EM to move out of the Downtown. I would think that downtown dealerships are becoming a thing of the past - unless the dealer would take on a more urban design taking up less space, keeping fewer vehicles onsite and indoors (just a showroom).
Anyway - I think the EM site, which takes up one and a half blocks of prime jasper avenue real estate, is ripe for redevelopment.
