This is somewhat off topic, but is the Citizen getting weird and loony-left reactionary lately? They have Ken Grey doing his thing, they run every NIMBY story possible, and their editorial today about the niqab is way out there. Plus, they blindly follow McGuinty's green energy plan and don't hold him accountable for anything.

Just an observation. Not that Liberalism in theory is repellant, but this is more bandwagon-jumping on the paper's part, in an annoying-person-at-a-party kinda way..

I just don't know what the end game is do some want the max height to be 3-6 floors city wide ban new construction in some areas i just can't how how in any way that would be good.

I'm always amused by NIMBY's who say they want Ottawa to be more like Copenhagen, Paris or Amsterdam, where buildings rarely exceed 3-6 storeys. I always like to remind them that those heights are maintained across the cities in question, lawns and yards are nearly non-existent, and suburbia is very different; some are composed almost entirely of a collection of high-rises.

Do we have any indication that this is actually a "group" as the story states? I've never seen any other member quoted. What I have seen is a number of other groups disclaim any association with the Conservancy.

I've read the "factum". To be kind, I would say that it lacks the precision of a typical legal filing. The portion of the factum that is supposed to provide legal authorities is scattered and not nearly sufficient to support the contention that is being advanced. Unless someone steps in to clean it up, I would be surprised if it ever gets to court.

Yes, and you offer them something that's Copenhagish, Paris-Lite, or Amsterdamian, and they go 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵.

What they REALLY mean, is that they want nothing to change, unless it can look more like a 1950s suburb, probably complete with bomb shelter.

Minto chosen to build residences at Lansdowne

OTTAWA — The city’s procurement department has chosen Minto Communities to build the residential components of the renovated Lansdowne Park but hasn’t found any suitable bids for the planned office space there, says a memo sent to city councillors Friday afternoon.

Minto is headed by Roger Greenberg, who’s also the lead partner in the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group that has partnered with the city in the larger redevelopment project. The city had put the development rights for the residential space — townhouses along the northern end of the site and apartments overlooking the internal thoroughfares — up for a formal bidding process.

According to the memo, by Gord MacNair of the city’s real-estate office, “a number of highly qualified bids (were received) from developers to construct the residential component of this project” but Minto was chosen through a “rigorous” process that included an outside fairness commissioner to make sure it was squeaky-clean.

The final decision will be up to city council.

City officials are also hoping for better luck with bids for the office space, MacNair’s memo says, having received no bids for it that complied with all the city’s conditions. They have asked would-be bidders to submit offers again, the memo says, and are hoping to be able to make a decision on the best of them by Dec. 21.

The city is keen to have offices at Lansdowne to make sure it has a diverse range of uses and people there every day and at almost all hours, but scaled back the planned office space last summer when an analysis of the market found less interest for the space than had been expected.

In all, the city has been expecting to raise $10 million from the “air rights” at Lansdowne — strictly speaking, it’s not offering up the land, just the right to build above it — to defray the costs of renovating Frank Clair Stadium and replacing the parking lots on the south and east parts of the property with green parkland.

MacNair’s memo says councillors can expect a formal report on the bids and the dollar amounts in the new year.

That's great news! They should be building more condos in Ottawa (especially ones that look as good as the ones they've been building in Toronto). Their condo in Yorkville is beautiful.

Perhaps. Minto has a bit of a bad rep in Ottawa, but some also praise it. I'm not sure how I feel about this.

As you said some praise it too. I was talking to a plumber acqaintance of mine who in the last couple of years has done installations in new homes of several developers.
I asked his opinion on the quality of the new homes he had worked on. Who would he buy? He rated Minto quite high. Just one opinion, but one whose opinion I respect.

I'm hoping that the office space competition is won by someone who isn't part of OSEG.
