Buckhead is really improving and transforming. Anyone who has the time should go to Bisnow's Transforming Buckhead event. I think I will be there now (wasn't going to go, but now will). Shops Around Lenox. Buckhead Atlanta. St. Regis. Buckhead Village. Streetscapes. Lattitude. The shopping is going more upscale and more local. The MARTA improvements (I'm still opposed to proposals on the Buckhead station). etc etc

First Post!

I was in Atlanta during the Holidays and was surprised and delighted at the ongoing transformation to the streetscapes and the concurrent creation of truly walkable neighborhoods. 5th street at Tech Square, Midtown, Decatur, Atlantic Station, the Westside, Inman Park and parts of Downtown are all pleasant and alive in their own unique way. After the Tech/Georgia game Midtown was a zoo of activity. I live in LA but was raised in Atlanta and return several times a year. Atlanta has an enviable ability to reinvent itself. Yes, too much history has been obliterated in the process put the whole forward push toward a walkable city linked by transit has happened at a remarkable pace.

One note on the closing of the Brooks Brothers downtown. The mgr. of the Perimeter store told me they wanted to renew the lease with a smaller footprint but the landlord didn't want to pay to rebuild the floor where a winding staircase went to the bottom level. Next, they would have moved to 12th and Midtown but Simon wouldn't grant a waiver to open within the Lenox trade area - a mere 1/2 mile overlap! The store did well, however, and I'm told they'd like to re-open in the Midtown/Downtown market.

I think the new Regions Bank sign on Atlantic Center Plaza looks really sharp. I've always disliked that building, because it looks like a cheap mini rip-off of its next door neighbor. The sign at least gives it a little bit of personality, and its pretty good looking at night.

Glad you enjoyed it, and yes, it's a really exciting place to be a part of right now. Even better, this change is still happening during a period of broader economic doldrums for the country generally and for the metro specifically. If we can get some significant job growth in Atlanta, the sky is really the limit.

I wonder if they plan on building out street level retail all the way towards Peachtree Street? Or just in front of the building? I'm curious to see the plans...

They need to do more than that, the place is a dump. I hope they really invest in an overall facelift and landscaping.

A dump??? Do you know how ridiculous you sound. Maybe its not your taste, but come on, it's not close to being a dump.

Have you walked around that mall lately? look closer, it may look good on the inside, but they really need to step it up on the outside. the landscaping is ragged, the parking lots are all cracked up, and Macy's could use a face-lift, for starters. I don't care what I sound like, I think it's time for them to take it up a notch. they could start by looking at whats going on across from them at the shops...jus' sayin'

Does anyone know when we could expect to see 77 12th Street and Skyhouse break ground? I thought that was supposed to happen last month.

Ponce City Market gets more TOD funds.

Curbed Atlanta is reorting that the Atlanta BeltLine got a nice early Christmas present (as did Ponce City Market owner/developer Jamestown Properties) with the announcement that the Atlanta Regional Commission was awarding Atlanta BeltLine Inc. a $4 million dollar grant for the construction of bicycle and walking paths to connect the BeltLine to the street near the Ponce City Market. This comes in addition to a grant previously awarded to connect the actual development to the BeltLine. The news came as Atlanta also learned that a concrete path connecting Freedom, Old 4th Ward and Piedmont Parks (a major portion of the 'Eastside' portion of the BeltLine) would be complete by next spring.

I disagree... especially the Macy's end. Parking on that side and then walking into that entrance of the mall always strikes me as very shiny, clean, sparkly, and classy.

I mean they have valet parking ... at a mall.

They now have the lot for 77 12th Street fenced off and they've moved their construction trailers onto the site of Phase 3 on Peachtree.

Hines launching its first Atlanta apartments

Hines will develop a 215-unit apartment building at Dresden Drive and Peachtree Road in Brookhaven.Hines closed on the roughly 3.3-acre site on Dresden Drive Nov. 3, according to Databank Inc., a firm that tracks real estate transactions across metro Atlanta. Hines paid about $5.4 million, according to Databank. It could start construction in the next year, setting rents probably north of $1,000 per month, observers said.

^Transit-oriented apartments! That's fantastic news. I wonder what the actual site will be... hopefully the enormous MARTA parking lot at Dresden and Apple Valley rd, just east of Brookhaven-Oglethorpe station.

Just as an update on Midtown Mile retail, STK is just about open for business and will/is doing taste tests (I know a server there ). Cucina Asellina is opening in January and it looks like it will be good.

Mi Cucina will start doing buildout on the space next to Piola and CB2 on the corner, and Cafe Intermezzo will start doing buildout on the other side of CB2.

The Clothing Warehouse is open and for a vintage store looks spectacular! (Does not look like a vintage clothing store from the outside) They are a temp tenant from what I understand.

And other store is going in on the other side of En Paris, not sure what it is or if it is temp.

Son & Sons is open across the street. It is a marketing firm with other offices in New York and Boston I believe.

The Cafe Agora is doing buildout next door. No timetable on its opening.

Buildout is occuring in the old Silk space next to Revolution Clothing and will apaprently be a furniture store.

Bobby Berk Home is now open further down and looks great!

Sprint has already put up its sign in place of Clear and will occupy the corner space at Viewpoint.

Still waiting on the "big" retail announcement for 12th & Midtown and I hope Mi Cucina was not a part of that. We need stores that sell electronics, pet supplies, clothing, and appliances! Still, Midtown is really turning into something cool, hopefully this translates into more pedestrian activity and more people coming into town to shop. I smell a restaurant bubble happening soon.

^ Cavalia was booming music at 1am. Which is awesome if you live at Plaza Midtown or MidCity Lofts.

Show sounds awesome. Hope they will listen to their neighbors and show some respect.

I can't even think of what was happening at 1am. The show ended at 10:30.
