Gardens on Rose also had a ground breaking, I was not referring to that but Centre Point Plaze which had it's own ground breaking a couple of weeks ago, but no action since then from what I can tell.

I don't think they had an official groundbreaking did they? I thought one day there was just all of a sudden some site prep materials there.

Dose anyone know whats going on at pasqua and ringroad, looks like it could be a possible interchange. Theres few huge piles of dirt in the area. Would make traffic flow so much better if they put an interchage thier with a bridge, like the one they just finished at lewan and highway 1??

City Plaza

Awhile back someone did a post on this site where they said that the city had done it's part in building the mega-fancy $13 million plaza by Victoria Park, and that now it was time for local groups to step forward and utilize the space.

Festivals and other special events don't just appear magically out of thin air though. They take time, energy, skilled labour and lots of other things. Things that require money and other resources. And the simple fact is that in the arts in Regina most of the key players (organizations and individual artists alike) are scrambling as hard as they can simply to fulfill their core mandates. They don't have the resources to take on the added responsibility of trying to do programming on the mall.

Remember the Flatlands Music Festival? It was a great three-day provincial showcase for bands from all genres that Sask Music held for a few years in the late '90s in Victoria Park. But putting the festival on every year placed too much of a strain on SaskMusic and it had to kill it.

That was me - and I still stand by that statement. You are correct in your assertion that Arts Organizations may not have the funding or resources to schedule events. That being said, the City built this space for the community and the community should be in charge of making use of it. The City will do its part with city held events (I love Regina Day, key announcements, etc) but the larger community has an opportunity to host their events in a great space. These events are happening all the time - it's just going to take some creativity and rethinking the norm to have these groups move from their previous space to City Square I don't believe that's a far cry or an unreasonable task.

The new stage is basically done except for the glass roof. There are all kinds of electrical connections and built-in lighting. This should be a big draw for events. Also the city has purchased a big liner to lay over the stones for the skating rink. It will be pretty large with a portable warm up shack that is already in place. The just have to wait for it to get colder to flood.

Yes Natan you are correct, there was never any official ground breaking for the Centre Square project, only for Gardens on Rose!

Don't know but it looks like a heritage apartment building that you can see is in the process of demo in the picture. That apartment was probably considered run down at the time but would be nice to have downtown now. The same can be said about the Grenfell Apts on Hamilton.
