Telus definitely got the air rights - believe it or not.

Thanks for the side-by-side comparison.

I like the newer version better.

There's less clashing of styles on the tower - the clash of vertical stripes on Georgia (from the V columns upwards) and horizontal spandrel stripes on the west (and east?) facades is gone and the kitschy-ness of the "add-on" protruding box has been eliminated by enlarging it and making it the sole focus.

Not sure I like the irregular wall behind the sculptural canopy. I still don't like the cross-bracing on the podium - it doesn't tie-in to either the V columns of the tower or the sculptural canopy. It's like it's someone's contribution that couldn't be deleted.

There is a danger however, that the facade (glass and spandrels) could be as "blah gray" as Shaw Tower (another Westbank project). Hopefully the east and west curtain walls on the tower will have some life to them (i.e. coluour in the glass and spandrels) so that they "pop" and appear as separate planes sandwiching the tower.

The mechanical penthouse looks bigger (and the rooftop solar panels (?) look higher up).

I hope Credit Suisse goes up. It would be nice to have some real architecture in Vancouver!

Don't know why Henriquez would say only two as he is clearly going to be tapped into the market. Maybe he just forgot about Oxford's spec building?
"3+" ? Are you counting burrard gateway?

With the exception of the videoboard box, I prefer the old rendering. I actually quite like the different colour blue and green glazing. The new design may actually be better as the different colour glass probably be executed as nicely as the rendering. I do prefer the white Vs and white cross bracing on the lower section of the building though, as well as the curving canopy at the entrance.

No.

- Credit Suisse
- 982 Howe
- Rogers Place

And at least 2 more that are in the works that have yet to be announced, and likely wont be now that this cycle is seemingly filled out.

for some reason I thought manulife or RBC (I cant remember which) would take a chunk of space at 982 Howe.

Ahhh the Aquilini tower. It has been on the books for so long I had complete forgot about it.

Anyway WTR the new rendering, it seems that they are continuing to refine the design, it is not uncommon as they work through the mechanical / structural plans to make tweaks. On the whole it think it has a more measured, cohesive look . I actually like the more greyish hue, it reminds me of TELUS place in Toronto.

And the last slew of office buildings in Toronto have exteriors that are boring as heck.

The black horizontal element on the Telus building in TO is nice.
I wouldn't mind if the bracing was replaced with a solid facade with punched windows so that it appears like a "rectangular tube" that pierces the building - somewhat like the TO one.

Steal Marty Mcfly's Delorean, or are we losing our job here in the near future and just don't give a fuck anymore?

Thanks, by the way. Looks alright.

The rezoning was approved late last year, only step left is the development permit which is expected end of Feb. Demo work should start just before that.

If the devp apps are from the future I doubt it's been fully approved yet

Looks like the res tower will actually be 137m tall, as measured from the ground level slab to architectural tip.

Thanks for the links J

Thanks for posting.

Woohoo!

They've changed the angled columns on the Georgia frontage of the tower to match the angles on the podium cantilever bracing!!
(they were previously "V"s that did not match and looked out of place).

Nice!

The more and more I think about it, I come to the conclusion that this project is the single most important development in Vancouver right now; new office tower, head office of a huge, national company, interesting residential component. The amount of people this development will bring downtown is huge.
