Yea, its a great house. You can see it when driving on Stony Plain Rd, it's just about a half block to the north along 135 Street or so.

So has anyone else heard that The Imperial condo had to request $12,000/unit Special Assessment to cover mechanical deficiencies. There was a story on Edmonton AM on Friday that the condo board was upset about the lack of assistance from the New Home Warranty Program. Unfortunately this isn't the only building that has had major deficiencies built by the same developer.

I heard about it. Not looking good.

There was also another article in the Construction Projects thread in the Canada section mentioning looming problems with the curtainwalls on condos built in the last 15 years, particularly with the limited useful lives of the systems - 15-20 years - and a costly replacement afterwards. Some condos are already facing these expensive replacements.

Let me go find that article.

Most unitary equipment installed in condos isn't even to residential SFH quality. Most of the stuff I have looked at in new condo buildings is garbage in terms of build and install quality. Granted I expect a higher standard of quality given the types of equipment I have worked on, but no one wants to pay for good HVAC, and developers certainly aren't going to take a lower margin to provide it.

No surprise on the curtain wall failures either. Residential curtain walls have been failing prematurely all over Vancouver for years. But nobody seems to care about that either.

I remember working on a couple of 1M Calgary Condo a number of years back. I commented that the quality of Mech equipment was crap. I was told the owners of the units would just change every their out anyway. I didn't see that.

I was asked to investigate why there was no exhaust in one system. When we pulled some of the ceiling down, the contractor had installed what looked like a full box of Flex Duct across the unit, a little tough getting 25cfm out of the washroom there.

I also have photos from an inspection of a large south Ed condo complex, It makes me shudder knowing people pay for that shit and don't know it.

Drove by the Jasper and 122 Street site today and they are moving full steam on the demo.

I also noticed that there is a small 3 or 4 unit townhouse infill going up on 125 Street and 102 Ave. Looks like it is going to be a cool design.

Neighbourhood associations across the city are challenging telecommunications companies on proposals to erect cellphone towers in residential areas, with at least four community groups publicly opposing the applications in recent months.

Residents of Hazeldean, West Jasper/Sherwood, Patricia Heights and Greenfield have publicly rallied against the towers proposed for their communities, a fight city planners say they are seeing more frequently as dozens more towers are planned each year.

There are currently about 600 cellphone towers in the Edmonton area...

What building is "The Imperial"? Was that a Tessco building per chance?
