I'm a bit envious of the other major cities in Canada with so much room to expand their cores. Downtown Vancouver is confined to a tiny penninsula that will most likely be built out within 20 years or so. So basically the most impressive towers in the city will end up gravitating to the suburbs which is cool in a way but somewhat dissapointing.This trend has already started. For example, Burnaby will be home to the tallest residential only building in the metro once Metroplace is completed.

I think that's exaggerating it a little much. Especially considering that the lowrise/midrises nature of many places on the east side of downtown like the St. Lawrence neighborhood are likely to be preserved.

But the west and east donlands......


Lots of space for thousands of towers there. - the donlands are almost as big as the entire downtown of Toronto all by themselves. We have enough room to grow.

But would they really allow for that kind of density there? Sure I can see those area's being flooded with hundreds possibly thousands of low and midrises but how I doubt you'll see many 'blade runner' style 150 to 200+m or higher towers there. Those area's are lacking in transportation options, unlike Young st. where a subway runs underneath and is closer to the core employment center of the city.

I do think Vancouver could of made more of the peninsula. The tower placement/podium (such as Harbour Green) feels more like an urban resort in a suburb than a downtown area. The site could of easily supported four towers. (or even five although it would be tight) The whole of Coal Harbour starting from Bayshore Gardens could of used dozens of more towers.

I never heard of Winnipeg or Halifax having a subway. Anyways, the entire downtown area is well serviced by transit. Direct underground access to an overcrowded subway is nice though.

Plenty of room for 200 metre towers however, having the whole city 200 metre towers or even the 40 storey, 400 unit behemoths dominating the investor driven market is hardly what I call desirable.

BTW: Just looking at those drawings for 460 yonge, i was trying to see the subliminal message with the balcony curves... a came across a few (some obvious ), but then i saw it...

I don't see how we can make judgements on this one till we see a proper render. But to me it looks like Canderal saw the Nautilus over at Humber Bay and said lets copy that!

Probably another Graziani & Corazza design. CS has stuck with them for all of their Yonge/College developments. This project looks like a disaster in the making. They really need to start hiring quality urban context architects like HP, RAW, aA, Core, Teeple, etc.

You know Toronto's making good progress when 70 + storey proposals are becoming common and no-big-deal.
