Yeah looks excaly the same they just added some bricks and replace suv with hybrids to make the hipsters happy . I find it pretty insulting that they figure people are stupid enough to think that this is improved over the original rendering because they changed the colour and added some brick. Changing the vehicles in the parking lot from trucks and SUVs to compact cars and hybrids really improves the design of the building...how ignorant.

Take a look at the pictures of the San Francisco store. Why can they keep the architecture there, but not here? What bothers me more than the design is the attitude and ignorance behind it.

I drove by the new LuLuLemon pop up store next to EB Games on 11th last night and I must say it makes a huge difference to the street compared to the old dark, papered-up windows. Having lit up retail with many people coming and going completely changes the character of the street. This just shows the need to have more active storefronts downtown. The City should be doing more to give incentives to street level retail. This may be more important than incentives for office buildings, although clearly they are linked.

I am a little warmer to the office building tax incentive now when I read RREDA's explanation that we are actually losing opportunities because companies have no place to rent office space.

Imagine what it would do for downtown Regina if some of the mining companies with projects around Regina established major Potash HQ's in the city. I am thinking of Vale, Rio Tinto, K+S, and Western to add to the existing Mosaic presence.

Hey Stormer...hands off! Mining head offices are Saskatoon's territory...you have all the provincial gov't jobs to fill up your downtown office space!

Before you all blow up at me, I of course, am just joking!!! The further expansion of the mining industry by some of the worlds largest mining companies will only be good news for ALL of Saskatchewan! As the article stated, there should be some pretty good economic times ahead for Saskatchewan.

I agree that Saskatoon is the natural mining HQ for most players. It is just that several of these projects are literally on the outskirts of Regina, so it may make more sense for some. K+S has an office in Saskatoon that they inherited from Potash 1, even though their project is just north of Regina near Bethune.

Yeah this is a sad effort of improving the architecture of this proposed building. It's interesting how you see a lot of developers, particularly with new homes, think they are classing up a building by adding brick on the bottom quarter of a building. Why don't they just use brick for the whole building instead of the base? I assume it is because brick costs more than stucco. Those pics of the San Fran store look great, and it is very similar style wise to the Regina store. This would be a great example and question for the next Safeway redesgin meeting. Is anyone planning on going? If so I encourage them to take those San Fran pics and ask, why not something like this??

They must think we're dumb as nails. I really hope the neighborhood fights this 🞵🞵🞵🞵 off. Simple cosmetic changes, not good enough Safeway.

I hope this issue is the Rubicon that gives the City some standards when its comes to design. This structure should of been the MINIMUM that was built in the East end and Rochdale.

City Council should really pass a By-law banning Stucco on large Commercial, Residential, and Office construction.

Its also insulting how they can't take the opportunity of a Starbucks and "open" it out onto the street/sidewalk. That barren wall would look nice with even just a garage door type feature that some restaurants have that can open up in the summer with chairs and tables for people to enjoy some coffee.

Has a city ever banned certain construction materials? Or atleast could they make a bylaw for any new construction downtown/or in certain areas of the city to not have it?

Even stucco houses make we wanna puke.

This is not the first time Safeway will have faced this. If you search "retro safeway" you will see that this issue has arisen in several communities. Banff (which has super strict criteria) has a nice newer Safeway.

In 15 - 20 years the proposed 13th ave Safeway will have had the exterior redone about 3-4 times. After all that's how they seem treat those bland, big box style stores. Instead of building a good design the first time they just reno the exterior about every 5 years to update to their latest bland big box look.
