Those last images were seriously gorgeous. A lot of people slagged the design, but in my opinion, quality doesn't have to shout.

That's why I hate it when there are setbacks anywhere near the street.

My opinion of tower 4 continues to improve. Its cladding has some significant details that give it a clear edge over 1 WTC. The cladding is nice and dynamic, and the massing is a really excellent choice for its location. The glass also has a nice degree of transparency despite its reflective that gives characters to its many corners. Its main ailment is the poor visual context amongst the other future and current towers. 4 and 7 do a great job bookending the site but tower 4 is a statement in simplicity, one fairly well executed, but in the context of towers 1, 2, and 3 the simplicity gets lost in homogeneity and becomes blandness. I also will never forgive them for covering up those inverted V braces with spandrel.

Please, forgive my tripod-less night photos.

yes i agree, tower 4 is looking better and better. and one might even argue, it's more interesting than tower 1 at the moment. it's got razor sharp edges, little setbacks (with a big one around the corner).. and it's finally looking less fat because the height is coming in to play now.

this tower looks best from the memorial park... way awesome for some reason, towering above at an angle.

^^^ Its because its the acute angle side. Its the same side that facing southeast along trinity. Like 7, I looks best from the thinner perspectives.

There's our transfer floor. Thanks, Carlos! Next floors above that should be the setback.

Tower 4

I love Tower 4. It's desing and now, I'm really excited that it's about to setback. Yet, this tower can somewhat be a disappointment to me. Comparing it to the other trade center towers, it's bland. The Comcast Building In Philadelphia, is a better design, In my opinion

it's hard to compare the two, really. the Comcast is designed to be a standalone tower, not a "tower 4" of a complex, it has to look good with the bigger picture. i'd say, if anything, comcast would fit better as tower3, though i'll stick with tower 3.

comcast is a sexy building though. i saw it this summer. it was sick.

^^ Tower 4 was designed simple by purpose, to act as a bridge between the fancier WTC towers and the rest of Lower manhattan. This will harmonize the skyline, and give it a balanced appeal when all towers are done.

I like that it doesn't try to add random elements like diamonds or external cross bracing to try to hide its blandness.
