You criticize 43 Gerard for being a spandrel mess, then praise a Tridel building?

43 Gerrard is a complete incoherent pastiche.
And I've mentioned verbatim that scattered and/or wrap-around balconies are my pet peeves.

I also hold higher standards for prime real estate.

I'm actually praising Alto because the render suggests Tridel is using a dark material other than spandrel/glass! lol

Just my 2cent.s

Wow, just read this on UT on Twitter.

OMG moment: Westbank bringing Bjarke Ingels to Toronto for a future project.!!
Sounds highly promising. Toronto could use more sexy Danish architecture.

^ I think the kids would say that Westbank are ballers. They put together arguably the nicest, or at least the most consistently nice projects in Vancouver. Definitely our top tier developer. BIG in Toronto is a big deal.

U of T's new student residence will now be 24 stories and 79.9 metres: http://www.toronto.ca/legdocs/mmis/2011/te/bgrd/backgroundfile-41557.pdf

Though it will now be half it's originally proposed height, the overall design will remain substantially the same:

Honestly a tad disappointed considering its iconic potential, but realistically what I had expected. 24 storeys seems like an appropriate height for this location. Still a great improvement and addition to this area. Hopefully this building will usher in new initiatives to rejuvenate the awful Spadina/College intersection and lame retail strip of North Chinatown. Considering the patchy streetscape, there should be great redevelopment potential in the near future along the radius of this intersection.

At the end of the day, it will still be the tallest in the area and it will still add some serious density. Not to mention it's visually interesting.

Here are some renderings of a new 11 story office tower being built in New Westminster. Site prep is already underway.

Here is the website/source: http://www.merchantsquare.ca/

I often find that New West is very under represented concerning urban form in the Canada and Vancouver section. While overshadowed tower wise by suburbs such as Mississauga and Burnaby, New West downtown has a very dense urban form which is still adding several new towers every year it seems. This tower will continue to add to that urban feel. (along with the new multi floor mall / theatre currently being built around the elevated New West skytrain station against the recently completed 3 condo tower 88 project (the tallest tower over 100m) and several other condo projects soon to start).

Also it's nice to see Montreal starting to get a lot of proposal. I very much would like to see pictures of these when the begin construction.
Very close , according to this, Alto will be 43 storeys. Impressive height for Sheppard/Highway 404. I'll now have another mini-skyline to look at driving between Bayview Village and Scarboro TC. lol

The site plans for Alto here.....

For the area, I think it looks rather decent. This awful stretch of Dundas West is pretty patchy in terms of streetscape but has potential.

Today has been a good and bad day in the Toronto high-rise real estate world:

Feeling suspicious on why Minto St. Thomas is no longer featured on Minto's project portfolio, and why it's own website is "not accessible anymore", I decided to call the sales centre. The receptionist said that this project will be temporarily "suspended", and will be relaunched at a later date. No publicly released info can be given though....

Hopefully, third time's the charm. Check out rendering here.

However, some positive news is the near launch of Cresford's 990 Bay Street project. I'm looking forward to the new renderings. I'm feeling a good vibe on this one. Cresford's been pumping out solid designs after its BSN fiasco. The upper Bay Street canyon will almost be complete with this and 43 Gerrard in the pipeline. Up next, lot across from the bus terminal?

And lastly, Minto will be launching their Eighty8 (88 Sheppard) project in North York. Will be 35 storeys.

Scale model of Flaire Condos from Urbanation. Good density filler coming to Caltrane's hood. Looks like taller towers are planned for later phases. Would be sweet living beside the "Shops at Don Mills".

Yes there are many more buildings planned, there's an even taller tower not pictured... might be a big named architect designing it too

Collection 45 (Vancouver) looks great! The kind of building, I'd like to live in.
